HELP!!!! Do I have a blood clot?????????
Marisol, I had swelling in my right cal around Thanksgiving and wehnt to the ER because I was worried about a blood clot. First they did two ultrasounds to rule out a blood clot - the second ultrasound was five days after the first. I was told that the second ultrasound was being done just in case they might not have been able to see a clot on the first ultrasound.
Then they sent me for a MRI. They (my primary care doctor and an orthopedic surgeon) decided it was not a Baker's cyst.
I was on anti-inflamatories and Celebrex, which I stopped after one month. The swelling has gone down considerably but it still swells from time to time. If I eleveated my leg more, it would probably help. My primary care doctor does not consider it in further need of treatment - neither does the orthopedic surgeon.
The best diagnosis the dcotors could make was that I had an intermuscular cyst that burst. I know of a teenager who had the same condition and it lasted for the entire summer.
I realize your symptoms are not the same as mine, but I thought it might help to hear about the MRI. It sounds to me as if you might have something similar to what I had.

HELP!!!! Do I have a blood clot?????????
I've had a CT-Scan to rule out a clot in my lungs - they used contrast media - no big deal. Makes you feel really warm for a few seconds and like you either peed yourself or like you have to go, but both sensations last only a few seconds. I don't think very many people have allergic reactions. Don't worry about the MRI. I don't know how similar it is to an MRI, but I don't know of anyone who has had an adverse reaction to an MRI other than feeling uncomfortable in the tube (a bit claustrophobic).
I don't know much about a Baker cyst, but did a quick internet search and found out that it seems they aren't a serious thing at all. I think (and I'm not an expert) that I'd rather have a Baker cyst than a blood clot - doesn't sound like cancer in what I've read. Could even be treated with an ice pack - best case.
Please keep us posted on what's up.

HELP!!!!! Do I have a blood clot???????
I am claustrophobic and our hospital does not have an open MRI. So, I told the doctor and was given Rx to relax me. It worked well.
