Two interesting fact's I learned at my pre-op apponiment!

One of the things I learned is why the bowel prep is necessary, the Dr. told me that when they are in there working on the uterus they are constantly pushing the bowel (intestine) out of the way with an instrument...if they puncture it on accident, (it can be repaired, but is a risk) your chance of infection increases greatly!
Another one of the questions I posted on here was asking if the uterus was a free floating organ or was it attached to muscles, nerves, or tissues...My Dr. explained that besides the small holes for the laparpscopic tools (I am only having my uterus removed) of course they have to cut the fallopian tubes and the entire muscle connecting the cervix to the uterus (which is a circular muscle) but there are three ligaments right around that area that are also cut into...there is also a thin tissue that connects the uterus to...I'm not sure what...the lining of something (sorry, I guess I forgot) that is also cut away. He also says that out of all of the incisions the one on the left is the one that gives people the most trouble.
This is by no means a minor surgery...I find that the more educated I am, the more at peace I become. I hope this doesn't scare anyone it was meant to inform and educate.

when I had my laproscopic Di Vinci myomectomy last year it was the incision on my right side that was by far the worst it was the largest and even the skin around it looked stretch markish .. it took the longest to heal and was the most sore

Thanks for asking and telling. I was wondering also. If I remember to ask at my pre op I probably would be to nervous to remember the answer. One less question for July 27 pre op.
