reschedualed hyst, two months out...

Yesterday I reschedualed my hyst (cancelled a few months ago, needed a bit more time) for late August. I could have schedualed earlier but I have an art show in mid August that I have been working on since January. Fortunately I can wait. I'm sure my anxiety will hit a fevered pitch closer to the date! Deep inside though, I know I am making the right decision. You see, it has taken me 2 1/2 years to get to this point. When my doc first told me I had growing fibroids I was in disbelief as I really didn't have symtoms that I would associate with them. I thought my monthly bloating was due to my age then (late forties) and surely menopause was right around the corner so my doc and I opted to wait and see with 6 month to yearly ultrasounds. I actually saw the growth slow down for a while but last winter I knew something was up and sure enough the fibroids were growing again and my doc recommended a hyst again...so went for second opinion for a LSH (not a good canidate) and I decided I would be alright with a TAH. So here we go. What to do in the meantime. Keep busy and educate myself on the hyster sister site. Thank you gals. You helped me get to the right place I think. The past few years were also full of caretaking of a terminally ill Father, his passing and then the family estate. Now it is time to take care of me. DH is having a hard time coming to terms with it. I realized his discomfort was a reflection of my conflicting emotions about the whole decision...we will work through this together, I pray.

I'm going to expect the best and post now and again. If there is anyone out there close to my August 29th date, I'd like to hear how you are doing. Perhaps we can help each other. Thanks to all the moderators and hyster sisters. Don't know what I'd do without this site and the people on it! By the way I have had the Hyster Sister book for two years. Read it then, put it away and am sooo glad I still have it. Now to keep on living and prepare. I want to get of much summer in me as I can. Make great art for my show....Cheers, Sue

reschedualed hyst, two months out...

I am a week and a half away...although I could have characterized myself many times in the past several months as a basket case, I am now at peace and very confident in my decision and my surgeon. I also postponed 2 and a half years back...my fibroids are huge, I haven't had a period in 9 months, and I am ready.

Hope your show is a great success. the waiting, I hope, really is the hardest part -- everybody here has said it!

Love, Ruthie

Hi Ruthie,

You have my best wishes for a successful hyst! My moods fluctuate up and down too.... my menses have slowed too but I can still feel my many fibroids - think they are causing mild incontence and constipation. Citrcel daily! Trying to exercise and eat right before surgery. Please write and let me know how it all goes. Peace, Sue
