Crown me! Just a few concerns

Hi everyone,

I posted a few weeks ago in "options" when I was about to have a d&c w/hysteroscopy on July 29th. I told of some of my symptoms in that post. My gyn phoned yesterday and gave me the news...I'm going to have to have a hysterectomy! Bittersweet moment, for I have wanted relief for years but now dread the recovery and all of the upset I'll cause my husband and children.

What I'm concerned about is that during our conversation she said I did not have cancer but "precancer"... after having 3 pathologists take a look at my biopsy she said the nucleus is big, something about atypia, the nuclei are divided and there is mitotic activity. It all sounded scary to me. Vaginal method and laproscopic are not an option, i'm having what I'm assume is a TAH because my uterus is too large, measuring 9cm.

I think I've read on the board here in the past that even with hyperplasia I might need to consult with a gyn/oncologist because if cancer is found elsewhere during surgery my gyn wont be able to remove lymph nodes for staging. Is that right? This is something I plan to discuss w/my gyn at my appt next week but thought I could get your thoughts here. Everyone here is in the know and several have been in the same position.

I've read so much here in the last few weeks that maybe I have everything mixed up, if so, please correct me. And if you can think of anything I should know or ask about, please tell me.

Thanks all

Crown me! Just a few concerns

I had hyperplasia with atypia, and my gyn referred me to a gyn/oncologist for the operation itself, just in case the precancer turned out to be cancer. She felt more comfortable with that, and I agreed. I wanted whoever was doing my surgery to be as comfortable as possible.

Your doctor may want to refer you to a gyn/oncologist, or they may want to do the surgery themselves but have an oncologist standing by in case a staging needs to be done. Good luck.

I said a prayer for you and am sending hugs. I do not have the answers for you but do want you to know that this sight has an awesome area about cancer and a full discussion board on it. I hope you check it out and it helps.
