1st challenge complete

Hi All: I just wanted to share the last couple of days with you all. I have just completed the Avon 3 day walk for breast cancer. I walked almost 50 miles in 3 days, slept in a wet tent and dragged my aching blistered feet to the finish. This however was nothing compared to some of the women that I had met. In these 3 gruelling days I met some remarkable woman who are currently surviving breast cancer. They volunteered their time, they walked 50 miles and they raised the necessary $1900 to participate, but most of all they showed me the true meaning of survival. I am awaiting my surgery and although I am scared out of my mind, I just think of these women and all that they have gone through and I am so thankful for them. These people show us that challenges that we face day to day can be dealt with and won. I truly hope that all goes well with my surgery and I know that I will have these treasured memories of these last 3 days to remind me that any hurdle can be overcome if we just have faith. Thank you for letting me be emotional as this experience was one that I will never forget and I would highly recommend it to everyone.

Hi Jumpyone,

As the daughter of a breast cancer survivor, I want to thank you for your post and for participating in the Avon walk.

I think it's wonderful that you were able to participate. Of course you are scared - it's perfectly normal to be scared when facing surgery, and a hysterectomy is major surgery, but by participating, you were able to face your fears about your surgery.

Best wishes for your surgery - you'll be in my thoughts and prayers next week.

Jumpyone

Wow I am impressed with your courage and strength !!!

I once ran a marathon and afterwards knew that I was forever changed. I am sure you know that you are too. I never thought I could run that distance but began to train. I was a turtle, but I proved that turtles can finish and feel like they won the race.

You reminded me that the person I was in 1982 when I ran the Skylon Marathon is the person who is facing surgery in 3 and a half weeks. I need to go as slow as I need to go in my preparation for surgery and recovery after, and I can still win the race. I am still that strong courageous person I have been in the past. Thanks for reminding me of that.

We are strong women Jumpyone. We will make it through our next race/walk too !!!!!

I just came back from a conference in Dillon and staying with a friend in Denver. Walking 50 miles in Colorado must mean doing some up hill travel. Good for you !!!!
