Second day home/Where are you sleeping??
Just got out of hospital yesterday.
Hooray, today is my 49th birthday and I am still on soft foods.
No birthday dinner for me.
How much moving around is too much and how much sitting around is too much?? I can't seem to figure out if I have sat too long and need to move around.
My sister had LAPV six weeks ago, but my AH is a lot different for movement.
Also, where do you sleep?? Spent last night in living room recliner. Have double size bed and afraid DH would bump me during night. Also hard to get up and down on bed.

Second day home/Where are you sleeping??
I think you should make your DH give you a rain check on that bday dinner! Or he could put your cake in the blender?
When I got home I slept in bed, but I had a wedge pillow so I was almost sitting up. Plus I put pillows under my legs, so I was bent almost in a sitting position.
Rule of thumb, walk when you feel like you can, relax and rest for the rest of the time. Listen to your body- it won't steer you wrong!
Good luck to you and have a Happy rest of your Birthday!!!

Second day home/Where are you sleeping??
I've slept in the bed with DH since coming home from the hospital. I've used a body pillow(even had it in the hospital with me) and I sleep with my back to my husband. He's been either "spooning" with me or sleeping on his stomach with one hand on my upper leg. We haven't had any problems with our movements (during sleep) causing any pain. The only one in the house who seems to interfere with my sleep is our little 5 lbs chihuahua who tries to sleep on top of the covers on my side (VERY near my incision). I'd say just sleep where you're most comfortable and you'll be more likely to heal better because you're not constantly trying to find a cozy sleep position.

Second day home/Where are you sleeping??
hi there......i read awhile back here some great advice, which at that time didnt seem so.... but here it was:
The couch is NOT your friend..... well my body and doc confirmed that.
For me, i didnt begin to really 'sleep' until i got up the courage to tackle my bed, which has 3 steps to get into it but has a mattress worth the climb. Like the other ladies, i surrounded myself with lots of pillows, for comfort, my DH works nights, so no bumping there....
Alot of women here seem to be blessed with a recliner, i am not that fortunate, but thats okay.
Now for me, my anniversary was on the 10th which was a bummer, altho he did buy me a nice anniversary ring, i wanted a steak.... lol.
So tell him he owes you dinner of your choice, slowly your appetite will return. I had DH get me chinese food take out of course, after i tried the restaurant, which was a no no....
And of course
Hugs,Carrie

Second day home/Where are you sleeping??
Happy Birthday !!! I came right home from hospital, and needed a nap. I jumped right in bed. Have been in my own bed every single night.
Hope you can find that comfy zone.

Second day home/Where are you sleeping??
I have slept in my King size bed with my Dh since I came home.I have a body pillow that I use to put between him and I, and then I had 2 pillows under my knees and then 2 on the other side for my other arm to rest on.............like a sitting position.
If you feel up to walking, then you should. If you're tired, then rest. The second day in the Castle, I walked the halls to the equvalant(sp?) of 2 blocks and my Gyn was happy about it.Good luck!!!
Happy Birthday by the way!!!!

I stayed in a hotel first week post-op!
We live waaaay out in the country, with getting home entailing about 3 miles of rough, dirt and gravel roads. My bedroom at home is a loft, up a flight of narrow, steep stairs. My surgery was 60 miles away in an excellent women's hospital, which was also closer to where my DH worked and my sister and brother in law live. My DH lined up a suite in a hotel close to the hospital and his work, then called my mother (who lives 200 miles away) and arranged for her to come up to be there for me the first few days out of the hospital, after which my DD came home on Spring Break to take over . It worked out really well for everybody, I got a comfy bed with lots of pillows and an adjacent bathroom, (which I definitely appreciated!) and loving family to help when I needed it most! By the end of the week, I was feeling well enough to want to go home, so we did, over the rough, bumpy road as I held a pillow on my tummy. Then I spent the next 3 weeks on the pull-out sofa in the living room because I didn't want to negotiate the stairs every time I got a night sweat or needed to go the bathroom . I'm finally back to sleeping upstairs in my own comfy queen bed with DH, but often end up back on the sofa halfway thru the night when my night sweats wake me up, and I don't want them to disturb DH... Oh, well, slowly gettin' back to normal -
happy birthday! I'll be having my 49th 3 months post op!

Second day home/Where are you sleeping??
Dear Vacationshy,
I had my TAH/BSO on 4/18. I too had trouble deciding where to sleep. I came home 24 hrs. after surgery and expected to jump into my bed and sleep well. Surely anything would be better than the hospital bed . I found out very quickly that wasn't so. I attempted to sleep in a sitting position in bed, but decided the couch was easier to dig my feet and elbows into. I did a lot of scooting around and was able to get to a sitting position easier than in the bed. I have also tried sleeping in the recliner with one pillow in the middle of my back and a pillow behind my neck. Don't be afraid to try the recliner or couch. I still have yet to feel comfortable enough to lay down in bed. I am a side sleeper and the slightly swelly belly just doesn't cooperate yet .
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Second day home/Where are you sleeping??
I can relate to the side sleeping....hugs to you. I am just now able to sleep on both sides, ahhhhhhh...i also found that since being able to side sleep, i feel a lil better too? weird eh?
.didnt mean to say the couch is not for everyone, just my story.
I can say that i honestly slept better in my bed, with the tv and bad picture, but sound, i just needed sound... i dunno.
And another issue for me, is lights....!!!!!!!!!! I never liked lights on before, but my Dh works nites, each nite he leaves he is careful to turn out the light. Now i holler please turn it on...and i am not afraid or the dark, must be hormone thing?
hugs,
carrie
