pre-op and not ready to talk about it
I'm going in on march 10th for a tvh- leaving cervix and oviaries. doing this for excess bleeding- meds not helping when I stop them and for various reasons- I need to get off them. I have discussed an ablation surgery- got 3 opinions (2nd opinions) and all three drs have little sucess.(not many drs in my area even do them) being that I hate the thought of 2 surgeries in 1 yr (due to insurance) and the lack of results- going for the tvh.
I just don't seem to want to talk about this much- very unusual for me. I talked with one woman at work that had the same thing done yrs ago and she's been great support but I have not told 2 of my 3 sisters and dreaded telling my mom (she would try to change my mind and this was such a hard decision to make)
at age 40 (is this a normal feeling or am I just scared of the true unknown for me)

pre-op and not ready to talk about it
I am sure that it is one of the MANY "normal" feelings that we all go through throughout our whole process of deciding and then accepting what we need to do to be healthy and finally feel good again! For some reason, it is the opposite for me. I usually don't talk about much of anything that is personal to me, and I am just telling EVERYONE! Don't know why, but I am just going with it. I figure that we all deal with it in our own way, just go with how you feel and all will be alright. I don't know how your family is, but when you feel okay with it, they will probably be your biggest support. And that is so important. But if it is not them, then someone else. I think it is important to have SOMEONE who will help you or just listen, to help you through this.I am 29, and I am an only child, and right now, for the first time ever, I am wishing that I had some real sisters to turn to. But as it is, I have a best friend of 17 years, and she is like a sister to me. So I rely on her and her 2 sisters for support. Anyhow, just feel however you have to feel, and it is normal. And you probly are a bit scared of the "true unknown for you" I think that is "normal" too.
Wishing you well,
Dani

I think that if you know you are making the right decision for *you* then your reluctance to talk to others about it is because you don't feel like dealing with their reactions, and the fact that they might try to talk you out of it.
I was very selective about the people I chose to give information to.
You might decide to tell them at a later date - perhaps after surgery, perhaps before.....
(no one in my husband's family knows about my surgery, and I'm almost 8 months post....) there are always reasons for not wanting to tell people.

I think you hit it right on the head- I don't want to deal with them trying to talk me out of it or saying "poor you" or even knowing they are not the supportive kind but the vindictive kind. thanks- it's good to hear that I'm not strange for feeling this way.
