surgery next week, uterine biopsy today

I'm scheduled for surgery on 9/24 and have my pre-op visit today. The doctor is doing a uterine biopsy and I'm quite nervous over that. Has anyone had that done before LAVH? I assumed it was to make sure the cells are okay. I've heard it can be quite painful. Also, I haven't decided on keeping or removing the cervix and ovaries. My older sister died from breast cancer but since I'm now 50, I feel like I'm not at risk for ovarian cancer. I don't want to go into instant menopause. I have uterine fibroids, polyps and I'm anemic. I'm so confused that I'm ready to cancel it all! Help! Also, this may sound really strange, but I have a few friends who had the surgery and they all had vaginal repair at the same time (tightening of muscles). Is that routine and how do I ask such a question without getting really embarrassed? Is there a name for this?

if youre having an lavh, your cervix has to be removed. its normal to be confused and nervous..but if you want to keep your ovaries, just let your dr know. if theyre healthy, you will still benefit from their hormones. i hope everything goes well
