getting nervous

Yes, my daughter-in-law works at Lakeland Memorial - she's a pediatrics respiratory therapist there. Another hystersister had her surgery there a couple of months ago, had very good care and is doing fine.

I hope that your experience in the ER was totally isolated and won't happen again.

Yes, there are a lot of us Central Florida hystersisters, aren't there? We've had a few get togethers in the last year - maybe you will be able to join us whenever we do it again? Be sure to check the Florida board in the neighborhoods ocassionally.

Hi Krissy,

I know you must be getting pretty nervous about now. I know I was two days before mine. I just want to let you know that everything went fine with my hyst., and it will with yours too. One thing that helped me was knowing that they do this surgery A LOT. They have lots of experience with this.

What kind of hyst. are you having? If you're not having a laparoscopic assisted, you might be able to go with an epidural and sedation. I didn't like the idea of general anesthesia very much, mainly because of the nausea afterward, so I went with the epidural. They keep it in for 24 hours, so you normally don't have any pain at all for that time, and then you go on oral pain meds or a PCA if you need it. I went to the PCA a little early because my epidural started to be less effective on one side, but that was the only problem I had, and it wasn't that bad. The medical profession seems to have finally realized the importance of pain control in healing, and was very attentive to it in my case. If you do have to go with general, you might ask about getting something for nausea right away after surgery. Just remember, THEY DO THIS ALL THE TIME, with NO PROBLEMS.
