going to castle tomorrow & really nervous
Hi!
Tomorrow is the big day. I'm really looking forward to life after the hyst, but for some reason tonight I am really ridiculously nervous. So, I thought I'd come here and check in.
I've got two last minute questions too. 1- What is an abdominal binder? 2- Has anyone had trouble keeping up with the pain while using a pump? I've had problems with that in the past.
Thanks all!
Paige

i didn't get a binder in that hospital so i can't comment on how useful it is, but i just wanted to send you a big hug and best wishes for tommorrow, i did not have any trouble in the hospital, or at home with pain management and was off all narcotics within a week
take a nice deep breath and please try and get some sleep tonight.

My doctor didn't believe in binders. He said it interfered with intestinal movement. As far as the pump...Morphine and I did not get along, so on day 2 it was disconnected in the morning and I didn't receive oral pain meds until I could hold a meal down. I ate dinner on Tuesday, and started on the oral meds, only to find out that I didn't require the full dose and took a half a dose. The pain was tolerable. Mine was just like normal cramping, if that at all, from a period. I did feel the incision site, I had staples. That was like a little buring feeling from a new cut. I too made myself sick with worry, and I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't at all like I made it out to be. Good luck tomorrow, I wish I could send you calmness from the other side. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. All of your hystersisters will mentally be holding your hand through this. Please let us know how you are when you are able to.
I'm also sending you a big hug,
Kathleen

Paige,
good luck tomorrow!! I did not have an abdominal binder but I believe it is sort of like an extra wide belt that goes around your tummy to give your stomach extra support. Hopefully someone who had one will weigh in on exactly what it is. I also did not have a pain pump. I was given demerol injections along with anti-nausea medications and a different medication was alternated in with it every 4 hours for the first 18 hours or so after surgery. After that I was put on oral meds for pain and I have to say I think that the pain was managed just fine, but I did not hesitate to let the nurses know that at 3 hrs and 45 min it was almost time for my meds!
Get as much rest as you can tonight - tomorrow you will become a new princess.
Wishing you all the best!
Hugs,
Aimee
