Info on pain meds prescribed once at home?

I had a couple of prescriptions already for a back problem, but liked the one I was taking the hospital so well that when they asked if I just wanted to stick with my Vicodin, one of the back prescriptions, I said no I don't like it and take only when pain really bad. Mine that the hysterectomy doctor prescribed was Tylenol with Codeine, sometimes called Tylenol 3. From what I could tell lower on the pain relief side than the Vicodin, but could tolerate it better so took it more than I would the Vicodin so worked better. I also augmented with Advil my usual drug of choice since it seems to work well for me. Get in trouble a lot with that since don't always take with food like you are supposed to. If the Percocet and Vicodin, both oxocodone type pain meds, don't work for you ask for other alternatives. There are lots out there, but I agree, it's better to be pain free than not. You are more able to do things than if you are not in pain. Was mostly off the prescription pain meds during the day five days out. Took Advil during days and prescription at night. Worked well for me. But then again, have been told I have a high pain tolerance and like everyone says, everyone's experience is different.
