concerns and ?'s

Hi and thanks for being here.

My dr. says that I'll still have pms after hyst. My gal pals all say no way. Is this true?
Very worried about urinary incontinence. Is this common after hyst?
And finally my dr. says I may be able to have a vaginal hyst...didn't really want that but okay. I had an abdominal myomectomy in the past and aside from the emotional stuff, does anyone know if my recovery will be similar?

Hello again, Helen...

If you keep your ovaries, then, yes, there is a good chance you will still have PMS.

I'm curious why you don't want a vaginal hyst. The recovery would be quite a bit easier than having it done abdominally. All of your incisions would be internal--you wouldn't have the additional pain of an abdominal incision. Which is not to say that the recovery will be easy!

I take it you have fibroids? I didn't have a myomectomy, so I don't know what the recovery is like for that. You may want to check out "Checkpoints," up at the top of the page under the logo. That would give you some idea of recovery time for the various types of hysts.

Unless you've had trouble with your bladder before, I don't think you are any more likely to experience urinary incontinence. Could be a problem in the early stages of recovery, but hysts don't tend to cause incontinence. In fact, if you have a fibroid pressing on your bladder, it could improve things.

Thanks Margot.
I'm scared of the vaginal hyst because I have not had children and I'm extra small and terrified of my giant uterus coming through a small place.
Silly, I'm sure but thats how my mind works. I know the recovery will be better but another dr. (gyn/onc) said a vaginal hyst was impossible because of my cin3 and the need to remove my cervix.
