Epidural Hysterectomy
Hi Melissa,
I had a spinal anesthesia with my surgery. I was also given some IV medication that made me sleepy. I slept throught the entire surgery (about 2 and 1/2 hours) and don't remember anything from the time they gave me the IV meds to the time they woke me up when it was over. I was wide awake on the way to the recovery room and eating ice chips and drinking water right away. No headache, nausea or any other complications that I've had previously with general anesthesia. I highly recommend this to anyone and everyone that has the option!
Best of luck to you!

Epidural Hysterectomy
Dear Melissa,
Having epidural anesthesia means that your anesthesiologist will put medicine into the epidural space in your back. You'll be numb from the level of the medicine down to your toes. Having said that, you can be as awake or as 'sleepy' as you want to be for your surgery. Just tell your anesthesiologist how you want to be. I'm sure he/she will be accomodating!
hope this helps!
