Medication for pain ?

Hello. I am wondering what type of medication do the docs prescribe for after surgery pain. How long will you have to be on the pain medication?
I have a high pain threshold but when the pain gets to me it has been really bad.Tylenol with codeine doesn't cut it wioth my pain. Any thoughts?

I came home with Oxycontin and Ibuprofen 800mg. The ibuprofen was/is what helps the most. It hits the inflammation on the nose.

There is a good chance that what your doctor prescribes for pain (when you are taking pain medication by mouth), is what you will go home with. Let your doctor and the nurses know if it is doing its job before you are discharged.

Hi, I can't take anything with a narcotic in it ( you know, the meds that really work ). I talked with my dr about it ahead of time so that I could have my meds ready and waiting . I think that you may want to put a discussion about your meds on your pre op question list too.
