2 weeks and have questions

hi,
I'm new to the site and have some questions. I'm at 2 weeks and feeling better each day. I still can't do much. I find that if I'm up and moving around my stomach gets really swollen. Should I be limiting the amount of times I go up and down the stairs? I haven't been in the car yet and I'm a little afraid about riding in the car. Also I have a pulling feeling on the right side of my incision, is this just healing? Are these all normal things?
I really love this site, and have learned so much just by reading what is available. Thank you for all of your sharing!

has your doctor given you any restrictions? If not, the "checkpoints" on the home page of this site can give you hints and the basic rules. in general, you need to take it really easy until your doctor releases you and says you are healed. but check out those "checkpoints".

2 weeks and have questions

my doctor had advised me,and still now as im having major complications,to come down the steps in the morning, and not go back up untill bedtime..you use a bunch of stomach muscles climbing the steps..the pulling feeling on one side of your incision could be the side where he knotted off your internal sutures...all these things sound very normal to me,esp the swelly belly, but at any rate,if it continues to be bothersome,do call your doc as he/she can offer some insite to your peticular situation....and the check points idea is a very good one..tells you alot of do's and donts...hang in there...sonie

2 weeks and have questions

Hi Amspahr,

Welcome to Hystersisters. I'm glad you have joined us. I am 3 weeks post op and in MY opinion, everything you are feeling seems quite normal. As long as you aren't having any bad/sharp pain and "listen" to your body, everything should go as expected. I still have quite a lot pain, even w/o moving alot, but my doc says it is normal for me. I see sisters posting about the "pulling" feeling quite often and it looks like a normal part of the recovery process. I have that feeling too when I am walking, especially on stairs. As far as the swelly belly, we all have it at one time or another or even for several weeks through out recovery. It should be swollen a bit, but if it 'balloons" up, that may be a sign you are over doing it.Check with your doctor and on this site under "check points" about what you can and cannot do at this point. I hope I've helped some. Keep letting us know how you're doing

Welcome amspahr

You've found a great group for support for whatever your concerns may be. By my experience and what I've read from other sisters, yes this all seems to be the norm'. I do check out those "check points" every 2wks. They are very helpful in letting you know what to expect.

Best of luck to you on your recovery.
