4 weeks and still having discomfort

Ladies,

I am 1 month+3 days post op - I can honestly say that at the latter part of week 3 was beginning to feel good. The secret: I turned into major princess and I mean major! I did only what was required for me and me only!! Selfish or not, we have gone through a life changing and very evasive surgery. You only have one time to heal right, so please rest as much as possible, even if you are feeling good, limit yourself to 1 hour of stuff and than grab a dvd and rest. My partner was very supportive and did everything possible including tyinng my shoelaces. Today I am able to do my 1 mile walk on the beach and get through most of the day without too much exhaustion. Also I have changed my diet completely...eating very healthy. My new motto: if it doesn't grow on a tree or from the ground - its not going in me. I try to grill all my meals, chicken, fish and lots of grilled veggies. I think all these things have been helpful. If you do some walking, i started with walking as far down as my driveway, than I graduated to passing my neighbors house, before I new it I was down the block. However any move I made I followed with plenty of rest afterwards. Food shopping, jump on an electical scooter. Their are times when I do overdo it and I pay. The swelly belly band comes out and I prop up my feet. However the key is rest. Health to all!

4 weeks and still having discomfort

At 4 weeks post-op I tried (notice I said "tried") to cook dinner. I just cooked some chicken breasts, instant mashed potatoes, and frozen corn. I kid you not -- I was too tired to even eat the food I cooked after I was done! That was my last cooking attempt until I was six weeks out.

The "textbook" recovery doesn't really exist, and averages are computed using figures that are all over the board! The only recovery that matters at all is your recovery, and it will be uniquely yours!
