internal haemotoma

Yes you certainly can. Had a strange vaginal sensation post op was concerned as seemed to get worse, at 4wks post op, I was ultra sounded including a very gentle vaginal one. haemotoma was found near the cervix. Not very big but causing irritation to the bladder and the strange sensation after peeing. Unfortunately can take a while to disperse. Any one else had a similar experience. Consultant said no worries will gradually be re absorbed.

Re: internal haemotoma

I had a large haemotoma 2 weeks post op... it required emergency admission and then was drained vaginally in theatre, that was Easter weekend and I'm still bleeding quite heavily but my consultant said this would go on for some time.
had it not been so large he would have left it to disperse naturally.
Hang in there, but keep an eye for any changes. I also got strange and painful bladder sensations but improving each day.
Good luck and keep us posted. xx

Re: internal haemotoma

Hi Wendy,
No problem, apparently it's fairly common but I don't know anyone who has had it??! Bleeding driving me mad but hey I guess its good in a way?
Do you live in the States, how does recovery and time off work workout there..... I've been told 12 weeks but possibly longer but will get paid ok for 6 months. What stage are you at in recovery? My DH keeps laughing at me 'cos I sort of expected 2 weeks of recovery and 10 weeks of socialising in the sun....... funnily enough I was wrong!!! xx

Re: internal haemotoma

HI Janey

Your reply really made me smile! I live in the UK and luckily for me I do not work, my husband supports me. However generally it,s about 12 weeks off work. I spoke to a woman at the doctors surgery the other day and she was very ill with her hysto, she ended up having five months signed off work by the doc. I really envy these people who are up and raring to go after 3 or 4 weeks!!! You sound like you are doing great, I am steadily improving just knowing what is causing these strange bladder sensations has eased my mind loads. I have read to many horror stories on the net, doc told me not too!!!!!!!

take care xx

Re: internal haemotoma

hey! Yeah I live in the Uk.......thankful for free healthcare unlike some of the people on here! I too envy the ladies who get well quickly, someone I work with was back at work in 6 weeks and another person told my son that his wife was running within 4 weeks...... so 'ain't going to happen here!!
Are you bleeding and are they keeping an eye on you to check heamotoma is dispersing? I still get strange sensations when going to the loo but apparently that too is normal? Did you keep your ovaries, I was persuaded by the dr to go back on HRT as the benefits outweigh the risks and I would have had another 10yrs before having the menopause naturally? I'm exhausted all the time but worst time is in the evening when I get weepy!
Do you have kids at home, I have 2 teenage boys and my husband is a deputy head. xxx

Re: internal haemotoma

HI Janey

No bleeding at all. Kept ovaries and cervix. Not sure if ovaries will kick in though. How do you manage on the HRT? I have no kids, just three dogs! Spoke to my consultant today who said that the heamotoma was very small and will disperse, might be small to him but it is fairly painful and gives me the strangest pulsating sensations. He did say that my bladder took a good battering had to peel fibroids off it. I suppose each op is different and each woman is different how she heals etc. I must say that most people i have spoken to did say it took them a good 3 months for things to fully settle so we both have a way too go yet. What type of op did you have?

Re: internal haemotoma

Hi Wendy,
I had abdominal hysterectomy with both ovaries removed, I'm not sure re cervix, keep forgetting to ask!!
Rested all day today and was meant to go out this evening but I'm achy and my temp is 37.7??? It's very frustrating! Not calling dr just yet although inwardly panicking!!
Do you mind me asking how old you are? i am just 43. I can't wait to feel better?? You can get bladder tablets that help with the spasms so I'm told.

Re: internal haemotoma

HI Janey

I am 39. I have been taking the bladder meds oxybutinin they take about a week or so to kick in they do help. I find I can sometimes hold on for about three hours but other times it,s every hour or hour and a half a bit erratic, It,s worse of course because you keep thinking about it, once the strange sensation goes i will be ok. You need to be careful about overdoing it though, still early days for you, i did make the mistake of going out and about a lot the second and third week out of hospital and i think it set me back as i went downhill at week four. so take care and rest up. To be honest I have forgotten what it feels like to be well and normal and to not give my bladder a second thought. I just remind myself that i was great pre fibroids and my bladder has( in ther words of my consultant) taken a battering.
