If you have fibroids - ask for photos

If you are having surgery for fibroids, ask the surgeon if someone in the operating room can take pictures of your uterus, so they can be emailed to you later.

I just received photos of my uterus - the doctor's secretary was supposed to send them earlier, but there were problems with my email - and they are amazing.

My uterus was completely distorted and unrecognizable as a uterus. It looked nothing like a uterus you would see in a drawing of the female anatomy. It was a big, ugly misshapen blob with lumps all over it. You couldn't tell what it was. The fibroids looked bigger than what appeared to be the uterus itself.

After your surgery, if you're having aches and pains and worrying if your decision to have a hysterectomy was a mistake, you can look at the photos and think, "Thank heaven I got rid of that horrible monstrosity!"
