When will they leave?

Did anyone have a BSO and then went without HRT's for awhile and had to deal with the hot flashes. My DR wants to give me progesterone which I don't want to take due to side effects, excess hair growth, weight gain etc.... How long would it take if I decide to ride it out with out any meds. They haven't been to bad they last about a minute or so but at night it's worse. I'm willing to ride it out as much as I can take.

TAH/BSO May 20. I started major hot flashes starting about 3 1/2 weeks out.Hollyk is right check out that forum. I and my Gyn agree on trying "natural" herbs etc. first instead HRT. I have been on "black cohash" for one week now and have noticed only a little improvment, but the directions do say effective in 4 weeks for most people but try up to 12 weeks..
