Ovarian Cysts Post-op?

So I went to the ER yesterday for my awful nausea, vomiting, diarhea and they couldn't find any reason for it but they did find some very big cysts on both of my ovaries. I'm shocked! I kept telling them, yes I have pain but its probably just from my surgery. Nope, its not...cysts again, stupid me. I feel like I've been kicked in the gut, I thought the LSH would solve my problems!! So I guess I have some more questions for you lovely ladies. How many of you have gotten cysts after your surgery? How could I have grown 'very large cysts' in the 3 weeks it has been since my surgery? If they were there during my surgery, my dr said she would take care of them while she was in there. I'm just so confused right now, I never expected this. It makes me wonder if I'll have to have my ovaries removed now too because I keep getting these awful little buggers. I'm only 26, its too early for me to go through menopause! I have an appointment to talk to my dr next Wednesday but I wanted to hear from you all first.

Re: Ovarian Cysts Post-op?

It's definitely something I'd want to talk to my dr. about too. Did they do an ultrasound in the ER? If so, did they give you any more than "very big cysts"? I had an 11 cm cyst when I had my surgery and in the 2 months leading up to it, there was no mistaking it was there. I could feel the mass in my abdomen. I have read other posts from women who had problematic cysts after surgery. I'm not sure there's a correlation but I know it must be very upsetting. I'll be anxious to hear what your dr. has to say.

Re: Ovarian Cysts Post-op?

Just read the paperwork from my CT scan, cysts are 3.1 and 3.3 cm. So, I guess, not as big as they made them out to be, I've had bigger! I'm still just so confused as to why I've grown cysts this big (in their opinion) in just 3 weeks...

Re: Ovarian Cysts Post-op?

Are they both on one ovary? I'm betting they were there during the surgery but perhaps not big enough for the dr. to worry about. Most cysts aren't anything to be concerned about. If you've had problems with cysts in the past though, I'd have thought she'd have recommended an oopherectomy.

Re: Ovarian Cysts Post-op?

One is on the left, the other is on the right. I've had cysts before that wouldn't go away and had to have them removed through surgery. My dr told me that if she saw anything at all on my ovaries she would take care of it while she was in there. That is what is making me think that they've grown since surgery.

Hi (((BlairFullOfHugs)))

Did your doctor tell you what kind of cysts you have? Perhaps they are functioning cysts that will come and go with your cycle?

Re: Ovarian Cysts Post-op?

I had never had cysts in my life & within 3-4 weeks i had a large one on my left ovary & one on my right. I am having scans every 3 months to keep a eye on them. I am 36 & like you - i dont want to lose my ovaries either. It has been over a year for me since my op. Lots of love

Re: Ovarian Cysts Post-op?

I just had my 6 week post-op. I had a complex cyst on my left ovary and the Dr took that ovary during surgery. There was nothing on my right ovary but she said it was inevitable that they would now develop on my right ovary. So, to minimize the size and frequency of cysts on my only remaining ovary, she put me on birth control pills. Kind of ironic, I thought. I stopped taking them about 9 years ago because they were not working correctly. I was having 7-9 day periods and severe PMS on the pill so the Dr took me off of them. Now, here I am again but this time with no uterus, no cervix, minus one ovary and one tube...LOL!

Did your Dr mention anything about this to you? Is it even an option for you? I figured it was worth a shot since I had no ill effects from the pill in the past. Just thought I would mention it.

By the way, I am only 33 so I also do NOT want to go through menopause yet! Good Luck with everything!

Re: Ovarian Cysts Post-op?

hurtingnomore- I can't take birth control pills, I've tried in the past and I get so many icky side effects, its so not worth it. I tried taking BCP when they found my last set of cysts and it was not pretty! When the nurse at my doctors office asked me today if I could take them, I kind of laughed. The thought was so funny to me, glad I'm not the only one.

Re: Ovarian Cysts Post-op?

I guess the BCPs don't work 100% to prevent ovarian cysts because I was on them when this last large cyst developed. Not that it's relevant for most of us now, but BCPs caused my uterine fibroid to start on a growth spurt too. It had been shrinking as I got closer to menopause but started growing again right after I started on the BCPs.
