post op antibiotics? Please answer.

My doctor wasn't present for my discharge from the hospital today. Gone on vacation...Arghh..so another doctor discharged me by phone. I am now home. I was prescribed pain meds but no antibiotics. I am concerned about getting an infection. I have had 3 previous ab surgeries and always went home with antibiotics. Was there a mix up? Should I ask about anitbiotics?

I wasn't prescribed abx. I was given colace, motrin, zofran, and percocet.

my SAH was my first and hopefully only abdominal surgery and my doctor did not send me home with antibotics. but if you are concerned you should contact your doctor.

I wasn't sent home with any antibiotics either.

They do often give a dose of IV antibiotics in OR but usually you don't want prophylactic antibiotics, so the bacteria don't get resistant. But if you have special circumstances, ask if they meant you to have some.

I wasn't sent home on antibiotics either, but I did receive two doses in the hospital through my IV post surgery. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I've had two abdominal surgeries and wasn't given a prescription for antibiotics at discharge in either case.

i had antibiotics in the IV's at the hospital, but didn't come home with any... this was my 11th surgery and i've never been discharged with antibiotics...

No antibiotics at discharge, but was prescribed them at my 2 week check up for a little redness and swelling at the bottom of my vertical incision. Cleared up fine and no further problems.
