recovery on VH

I have now been surfing the sisters sight for a couple of days now, and I am so excited to have this available! My question goes out (not exclusively), to those of you who have had a VH, and how your recovery has gone. I am 9 days post-op, 34 years old, and I am doing well. I have some kind of big plans to get back to work on Monday and start doing more after 2 weeks. Are there differences in those of us who do not have stitches "above ground", and do we all follow the checkpoints regardless of our proceedure? Just curious. I dont feel like I have been through as much as some of you, and am gratefull for that. I also have kept everything but that terrible old adenomyosis ridden uteris. Also, anyone else have painless but unnerving strong muscle spasms?
Thanks to all of you, I really feel the sisterhood.

Hi mtnbiker;
I am ing your post to the top in hopes someone will be able to help you!

I do believe the Check points are a guideline for most everyone. I had a TAH so can't share the same experience with you.
I believe as well, at two weeks you still have a whole lot of healing to do internaly!
Be good and rest!

Hi Christie,

I am 3. 5 weeks post op from TVH and bladder repair and feeling pretty good myself!

I went "back to work" at about 2 weeks, mine is a desk job and I work from home. I can tell you I still have tons of stiches internally (checked my self ) .

If your DR gives the okay for work and you feel up to it go for it, just do NOT over do, I did and spent a few days regretting it!

I also feel as if I have had it to easy and wait for the "axe" to fall. My heart goes out to the woman who have had a rough time...they are ALL better woman than I am.

I hope you continue to feel great!

HI there
I am also only just over a week out from VH and anterior and posterior repairs and I am feeling great. If I hadnt had the repairs I think I would be ready to return to work.Over here in the UK we are more advised to listen to our bodies and only avoid heavy lifting, strenuous excercise, digging, mowing, vaccing and sex for 6 weeks. Everything else is encouraged as long as it doesnt cause any pain or discomfort. I am doing quite a few household chores as I have 4 kids, youngest 11 months!! I think this op is a lot different to AH, my friend I met in the castle had a TAH the same day and is still on almost total bed rest and in a lot of pain. I feel lucky to have found it so easy like you!
My advice is follow your bodies signals and rest when you feel tired.

I am so greatful for your reply. I have felt pretty darn good! I cant imagine having an 11 mo. old through all this. It would be too hard to not pick that baby up all day and at least change its diapers, (bending, lifting, etc). I have two kids. One is 5 and one is 9. The 9 yr. old is the official informant of all things in the house and he thinks he is the boss. The 5 year old will have none of that, and they want both to be right next to me on my throne....(that is both sweet and challenging). My husband is mellow and very sensible. I feel very lucky. I cannot believe this network is helping all of us going through this all over the world!
I agree we should just listen to our bodies, the challenge can be that as I am doing something, there feels like no limits, it is later that is the problem sometimes. especially in the evening.
take care of yourselves!

Hey girl,
I also had a TVH on 3/14 and am feeling pretty good as well. I was told by my doc that alot of us feel good about 2 weeks post op and that is really when we need be cautious. She said we start feeling good and think the worst is over. We still need to take the 6 weeks because of all the healing going on inside and if we don't we could end up with further surgeries down the road such as bladder suspension and A&P repair. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth with feeling better and listen to the doc so that this ends up being a great experience down the line. I'm also a nurse by the way. Good luck to you!

Take a little extra time, if you need to. I have been in a situation where I've had to do some things that my doctor did not want me to do, like driving and lifting (although I tried my best to keep it to 10-15 lbs).

I was strongly warned that if you've had prolapse, cystocele, or rectocele in the past, it can happen again if you overdo. I did have the bladder suspension done at the same time as a TVH and A & P repair, and my urologist told me the same thing. Bottom line could mean re-doing the surgery, and no one wants that!!!!!!

It is, IMHO, more difficult for sisters who had TVH rather than TAH, because of the fact that you can't see the stitches. I, for one, never really had any evidence of losing my stitches, so I didn't have a good indicator of where my healing process was.
