Upcoming hysterectomy 12/3: Shave pubic area?

Do you know if they shave all off your pubic area? Do you think it is worth getting a brazilian wax beforehand?

I think it depends on the dr but I was not shaved.

I wouldn't do anything down there. If there are small cuts or abrasions it may delay your surgery. That is one thing they are very meticulous about, and will post pone if there is any open or inflamed skin. They will shave you if needed, and trust me, you won't care.

I also agree with ((teria)), you will not care post-op what is or is not shaved.

I was told at my pre op appointment not to shave anything for 3 days prior to surgery. Even with that my really sensitive skin still had a slight reaction to the pre surgery anti bacteria rinse (don't know if all hospitals do, but I had to to it at home every day for 3 days prior and again that day as part of prep) the nurse got a little worried but since it "calmed down" after a few minutes things went ahead as planned.

What everyone else said: don't shave or wax beforehand, the hospital will do it to you if they want it done. I see that you're having a vaginal hysterectomy. I had an abdominal. The nurse shave the top inch of pubic hair at the base of my abdomen but did not shave any lower. However, the procedure for vaginal surgery might be different.

I just had a wax but my surgery is a month away so I hope that's ok.

You have been given lots of excellent advice. It is very important that you follow your doctor's pre-op instructions. Some doctor's require shaving and others don't. Don't wax or shave without instructions from your doctor. My doctor required shaving and the nurse took care of it when she prepped me for surgery. It really isn't anything to worry about.

I was actually surprised when I found that I had been shaved. I wasn't sure what to really expect as we didn't know what the Dr would find once he got in there, but, I ended up having DVH with vaginal removal of my organs. I was shaved, just in the area around the vaginal opening, and trimmed a bit, but, not bad. It all must have happened after I was out, because pre=op didn't do it.

Yes, all shaving is normally done after you are out.

For me, the top part of my pubic hair was shaved. I discovered it after surgery. I really did not care. I had much more important things on my mind.
