that awful gas

another question....I feel I may clog the board with them today...lol

when you have a TAH do they still use the awful gas, if so why? I can see using it with a scope assisted surgery, but if the Dr. is going to cut me open, then why use the gas? What's the point of the gas?

Thanks

Hi Sy_reen

For a TAH? No, they don't.

Not to worry though, you'll have enough gas for the State of Illinois afterward.

that awful gas

thank you so much....

I think reality has finally set in....I have been telling myself for weeks that I'm strong, there is nothing to worry about, I'll do fine.....

today though, reality hit hard, surgery tomorrow morning, my house is a wreck and I am sitting at work in tears....I think I finally admitted to myself that I am SCARED TO TEARS.....

everyone at work is great though...they keep telling me that I'll feel 100% better afterwards, and that I'll do fine....

thanks again for everything....

You're going to do fine. I know how hard this part is! Try to focus out one year - and think how great you'll feel then.

Um, sorry to be the one to tell you.....you will still have gas, even though they don't pump gas into your abdomen like with the scope.

The fact is, that when you go under the anaesthetic, your bowels pretty much go to sleep, and it takes a while for them to wake up. It's the waking up and moving that causes the gas. No matter how you try to get around it, well it seems to show up.

The best thing you can do, is get up and WALK as soon as you can after surgery, and as often as you can. This helps get things moving. Yes, it's kinda painful, but we all get through it.
