Nausea and Vomiting as main problems?
Hi! I am new here. Just wondering if anyone else had recurring episodes of severe nausea and vomiting as their main symptoms? I have had 3 episodes, 26-27 days apart of this and started bleeding just before the last one. (Not my period). Had blood work for CA-125 today and uterine biopsy tomorrow. Dr. found 6cm cyst on L ovary (R removed in 2005), thickened endometrium, and large bleeding fibroids in my "twisted" uterus. Says I can have a Hysterectomy in as few as 10 days. I asked if we could try hormones, as I am unable to tolerate BC pill in past. He says will can talk about it when we get the results in.
I did not know anything was wrong with my uterus. Last painful ruptured cyst that required an untrasound was in 2009 and resolved on it's own. Have heavy, long, but regular periods.
Had a Kenalog injection for lumbar disc prolapse prior to first episode and it has been suggested by my GP that this could be contributing. Any thoughts or similar stories? I feel like I am presenting differently than other people on this site, but still looking at a potential Hysterectomy.:new

No idea, but guessing the vomiting and nausea may be totally unrelated to gyn issues. Have they checked if youre having gallbladder issues? Hope your dr figures this out soon.

Re: Nausea and Vomiting as main problems?
I get very nauseous at times in my cycle, I think when hormone levels go up and down. I think sometimes pain can cause it as well. I generally feel bloated and not interested in food most of the time since things got worse. It's also a symptom of anemia if that might be an issue. I just read that today.

Re: Nausea and Vomiting as main problems?
Thanks for your input/suggestions. I have always vomited easily when nauseous, so it makes since if others are nauseating by hormonal changes.
Gallstones have not been suggested to me. I have not had pain, flatulence, or food intolerance. My symptoms completely clear up between episodes.
I saw my Gyn today for the endometrial biopsy and he thinks I may need to see a gastrointestinal doc as well. He gave me some Lo Loestrin Fe to try. Unfortunately the packaging says "Do not take if you have ever had certain kinds of severe migraine headaches with aura, numbness, weakness, or changes in vision." Which I have a history of and have never tolerated other birth control, which I told him already. So, I guess I will be calling him again tomorrow. He said this is the lowest type available.

Re: Nausea and Vomiting as main problems?
Major reminder that this is observation, I am not a doctor and don't know much about kenalog. However I was a therapist for 11 years and saw numerous people who have had kenalog and I don't remember nausea/vomiting as a side effect. That may mean they never mentioned it, that it happened before I saw them, that I saw a subset of people who were fortunate, or it may mean it's not a common side effect. I didn't process that part of your post earlier.
My bet still would be hormones. If you are sensitive they can really be ugly. I was on the pill for a year and vomited at 10 AM every day of that year. I think at this point my hormones are out of control and I'm only eating one meal per day, my chronic constipation has become chronic rush to the bathroom as cramps have their effect on my intestines, and there are few snack foods that taste good that I can add to get calories. Thankfully fruit is one of them. Granted I am the first person my gyn is aware of who became suicidal from the small amounts of hormones in the Mirena (but a 2nd has been found), but hormones are evil. kenalog is usually good, at least from what my patients said.
Hope he finds a birth control option for you. I make the mirena sound bad but really if I weren't so sensitive it would have been a good thing. Is it an option?

Re: Nausea and Vomiting as main problems?
What kind of therapist are you? I am an occupational therapist and a certified hand therapist as well. Small world, huh? I have researched the Kenalog and there are plenty of people with side affects, but many others that it has no side effects on. I never heard of it from my own patients, either. But of course, there is a much larger sampling available on-line than in anyone's own practice. I guess it doesn't really matter what triggered my problem, but what to do about it. I use to throw up every morning for a couple years when I was a kid, as well. So I know I am super sensitive and easy to vomit. I guess I am in the waiting mode until I see the Gyn on Aug 16th? I did go by the health food store and got some "Vitex" which is a natural remedy for hormonal imbalance. I know that in the past I could not tolerate any birth control pills as it made my migraines frequent and my blood pressure sky rocket. He said that what he gave me was the lowest level of estogen available. Thanks for the encouragement and I hope that you are doing better soon.

Re: Nausea and Vomiting as main problems?
I'm also an OTR. I worked in home health and nursing homes and ran into Kenalog a few times. I think that one of the doctors where I did home health used it relatively frequently although I didn't see a lot of back patients (I was the first OT at this place so I built the program but it took a year to hire a COTA so I didn't do as many 1-2 visit consults as I would have liked. I've been on disability for a year so my memory isn't 100% accurate. As a matter of fact I think one of the more recent uses I heard was for Meniere's. I used to use kenalog cream when nursing home soaps would make my skin open and bleed. But I cn think of about 3 people who had back injections.
I had to move up my visit; I was supposed to not go in until Dec. and then I knew that would be too long so I requested an earlier one and when that was Sept. 11 (the day after surgery now) I called and explained "blood everywhere" and got in much sooner. Good thing since each period seems out to top all that came before.
Have you been on the progestin only pills? I have had such strong reactions to all hormones with psych sx that I couldn't try them. I do know that the "progestin period" caused by removing my Mirena made me long for a chance with them; it was the best period I've had in years, much more like my 20s, and possibly ever. Alas my body won't be fooled and 4 weeks later I was at the opposite extreme.
Good luck; I hope they find a solution soon. I suspect from what I'm reading that my estrogen level is too high, causing some sx. Hopefully they have a good answer for you!

Re: Nausea and Vomiting as main problems?
I have not tried anything yet, as they just found the reproductive problems last week. I have been researching and I agree that the progesterone only stuff sounds like it may help. If I can't get my ob gyn to test my hormones and help me with it, I may have to seek out another doctor. I have heard of one locally who specializes in Bioidenticals and I like the sound of that.
I hope you start feeling better soon and am glad you got a sooner appointment. Best wishes!
