Incision scabby

Hi all,
I am generally happy with the way my incision looks. It is closed on the ends and most of the way to the middle. In the middle, however, it is still scabby looking and I can see fluid in there when I use a hand mirror to see closer. I had an appt. with my gyn. last week and she pinched it and pressed on it and it didn't ooze at that time. She didn't seem to concerned. She suggested soaking in the tub at night to help the incision feel better.
Anyone else have anything like this? I don't want to go back to the doctor. I have an appt. in the begininning of August for my post op. check-up. I can wait until then, I guess. Just curious about others' incisions.
Thank you!

Michelle

It will scab over because it is healing. I wouldn't worry too much. If it gets red that means infection. That would be a differnt thing all together. I think it should be ok. Mine did the same thing. But if you are worried too much just call your dr and talk to the nurse. She should be able to tell you if you need to come in or not?

Scabbing is a normal healing process. Just as if you scraped your knee. Is it yucky looking?? Probably, but at least you know that it is healing well. Take care.

Thanks, Penguin2005. I asked my dh to look at it again tonight and he said it looks better than yesterday. He said it looks more purple...yikes! I know what he means though. Thanks for the extra support though. It's all just so new still. It's hard when you don't know what to expect. Thanks again. Michelle

Thanks Beck. It looks yucky compared to the rest of the incision. It is also the same spot that had oozed when that was still going on. I just get nervous. I want it to heal! Then I read some of the posts with systers having doctors squeeze the incision and having tons of stuff coming out. My gyn. did that to me last week and of course, nothing came out. I hope that everything that was supposed to get out did and it is healing, like you said. Oh well. Thanks again for the message.

Incision scabby

Hi,
I had my surgery on the 14th of June. My incision has some spots that are more scabby than other area's. I do have some oozing though, kinda yellowish oily. Went to the dr yesterday and he took a sample to send to the lab. He said it is an infection and put me on antibiotics and opened the hole a little more to help it drain. Just keep an eye out for the oozing, if it continues, please call your dr. I do not have a fever with this infection. I'll get my lab results on Friday or Monday when I go back to see him. Good luck with your healing.

BuggaBean,
Those warm soaks will make a big difference. I had the same problem, and my doc suggested warm, wet compresses and/or heating pad. So, I took my "herbie" ( the heating pad you heat in the microwave) and put it in a plastic bag and placed it on top of a wet washcloth which was positioned over my incision. I did this three or four times a day, and it helped tremendously.

Incision scabby

My surgery was June 9th and I also have sections that are taking longer to heal than others. The surgeon tried to follow the incision form a surgery I had 10 years earlier, which involved removing my spleen one week after I had an appendectomy (long story), that incision went from my breast bone all the way down to the pubic bone area. Anyway, there was alot of scare tissue form that and this new incision is not straight down at all, it cuves here and there with what I call "peaks and valleys" and the valleys are having the hardest time healing right now.
