2 weeks post hysterectomy & BSO: Menopausal Skin Care??

Hi! Does anyone have any tips for skin care in menopause? I have had EXTREMELY dry skin post op. Both ovaries (along with uterus and cervix) have been removed, so it makes sense that my skin wouldn't go through the monthly oily times, but even with a hormone patch, I am struggling with dry skin depsite drinking what seems like gallons of water daily.

I think I have found a moisturizing routine that works, but I am struggling to find a cleanser. Face washes I used pre-surgery are way too harsh and drying, but simple micellar water doesn't seem to be enough (I get several tiny little white heads on my chin and forehead).

If anyone has any suggestions for affordable (like drug store) priced items or cleansers, I and my dry skin would appreciate it. Thanks!!!

Re: Menopausal Skin Care??

Ugh - I hear you.

This product is "ancient" (like I am ) but it's my all time go-to facial product "Jergens All Purpose Face Cream" featuring a pink top and a pix of 3 faces. It's a whipped cream consistency - in cotton candy colored pink!) that removes makeup while keeping your face hydrated. It's found in Target and Walmart for around $5.! I have super sensitive skin and I've been using this product for ages.

If you can afford to splurge a bit, I also have great success with HSN - @Signature A Melt Down - great texture and soothing properties. . Another great cleaner is the one called Purity by Philosophy. Great for sensitive skin.

Hugs and good hydrated healing

Re: Menopausal Skin Care??

I use old school Castile soap bar, then use aloe Vera juice as toner and moisturize with organic cold pressed coconut oil. Works wonders and doesn't break the bank.

While I'm not in menopause, I've had skin issues a long time. I've used Cetaphil which is very Gentle and mild, it comes in a bar and liquid. Also Aveno products are awesome. There are different ones the most gentle being a foaming face wash. When I am more broken out I use St Ives Apricot Scrub, but that will be too harsh for you it sounds like.

Re: Menopausal Skin Care??

obagi gentle cleanser is great (all the products are). you might want to try a vitamin c serum. obagi c 20 is what i use. you can get them on ebay for a fraction of the price doctors charge for them.

Re: 2 weeks post hysterectomy & BSO: Menopausal Skin Care??

I noticed that my Neutrogena pink grapefruit face scrub was to harsh after my surgery. I've been using Burt's Bees Natural Acne Solutions Pore Refining Scrub along with Burt's Bees Skin Nourishment Night Cream (take shower in evenings). Since switching to the Burt's Bees products I'm not dealing with the dry flaky skin on my face and it's kept my face from breaking out as well. I'm also taking a supplement by Nature's Bounty for Hair, Skin, and Nails that I picked up at Costco.

I have dry, sensitive skin with rosacea, and my favourite facial cleanser is Spectroderm, a a non foaming facial cleanser; for the rest of my body, I use Dove Nutrium body wash. For moisturization, I use Oil Of Olay for my face, and Aveeno for my body, applying them while my skin is still damp from washing, so the moisture is locked in. Eating foods high in healthy fats can also help, by moisturizing your skin from the inside out; that includes fatty fish, avocados, nuts and seeds, and olive oil. Best wishes for moisturized skin, and for your continued recovery!
