A week and a half post hysterectomy, still sleeping on couch

So, I had my tvh (left one ovary)on April 11th. The surgery went great, with no issues. I went home the next day loaded up with Norco and ibuprofen for pain. I've sleeping on the couch because both my hubby and I move too much in our sleep for me to be in the bed with him. I thought I'd only be on the couch for a week, but now that the bloating has gone down, I feel all the aches and pains and am still on the couch. I was ok with this until a few nights ago when my hubby said he couldn't take sleeping on the other couch with me anymore... That made me a little sad, but last night came the real emotions and water works.. My hubby came and kissed me before he went to bed. It felt like he was leaving to go across town not across the house! I cried myself to sleep last night, and am getting emotional thinking about it now, because there is so much distance between us right now. He sits on one couch, and i lounge on the other one. He sleeps in the bed, I sleep on same couch I've been lounging on... Is anyone else going through this or has gone through this? I know its upsetting him also. He's scared we will never sleep together again, or I will decide I don't need him as much, or something... I'm scared he will get tired of not being able to touch me and me being on the couch will make him want to find someone to share the bed with him. Logically, I know both our fears are crazy and wont happen... But the fear is still there, especially mine... Sorry I'm rambling.. Even though I wouldn't want anyone else to feel like this, I kinda hope someone does or has, so I can get some advice and encouragements.. I hope everyone else is healing well and doing better than I am emotionally.

Re: A week and a half later, still sleeping on couch

First if i could hug you i would. You are 1 1/2 weeks out. It takes a good 6 weeks plus to feel a little bit better. You are being too hard on yourself. I am sleeping in my bed but my husband sleeps on his back and does not move a lot. I am still sleeping propped up on 3 pillow and using a stool to get in bed and have a nightlight so i don't fall on the stool getting out of bed. Also you did not mention your child situation have any/infertility?? A hysterectomy can be very emotional for some women that's where the word comes from hysterical Speak to your Dr regarding depression.anxiety information. Also try doing something with your husband over the weekend movie/dinner out or even renting a DVD. Intimacy will come when its times
I am sure your husband loves you very much, HE slept on your other couch for Pete;s sake. My husband would NEVER have done that. He has to go to work in the morning I'm sure so don't you want him to be well rested for his day. Take it one day at a time and relax time heals all wounds. I will be praying for you Meagan86

Re: A week and a half later, still sleeping on couch

I spent 6 weeks on the couch under a blanket with Netflix! I used to cry at my daughters and my husbands bed because I missed them! I am 3 months out today and feel mostly normal. Just sleepy a lot. Just rest and heal. You will be back to normal soon!

Re: A week and a half later, still sleeping on couch

Kimberlee3,

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I don't think losing fertility has really affected me because my husband already had a vasectomy when I met him. I've known for about 8 years that I would not be birthing anymore babies if I wanted to be with him. So, those issues I dealt with a long time ago. It's just that my hubby and I are/were super close, and I hate feeling distant. I can't even sit on the love seat with him because it's WAY softer than the couch, and makes life difficult for me. Lol... Like I said, I know both of our fears are just that. He is amazing, but everyone needs intimacy. Of course, he doesn't know my fear, and I'm sure I only know a little bit of his... I go for my 2 week post op appointment next week (the 26th), so I will talk to the Dr then. In the meantime I will be hoping and praying that I get to be back in my bed soon

Re: A week and a half later, still sleeping on couch

Meagan86 so glad fertility isn't an issue. My heart just breaks when I read some of the heartache on this site. I have 3 children 22, 20, 14 I wouldn't know what to do with an infant. I do have an idea for you. I used to do this when breastfeeding. Go to bed with hubby then when you get uncomfortable retreat to the couch. At least you might get a few hours with him. I was always afraid to bring my baby in bed to breastfed for fear of rolling on her/him. Plus i didn't want to disturb my husband. Good luck at the Dr

Have you tried sleeping in bed? If necessary putting pillows or a rolled up blanket between you? I was a little nervous, but it all worked out.

Do you have a binder? I slept with one, it helps a lot.

Re: A week and a half post hysterectomy, still sleeping on couch

Hugs to you. The first 2 nights home I slept in a recliner and hubby on the couch. The next 2 nights I moved to my younger daughters bed and hubby slept on the couch again one night and daughter slept in our bed, but the next night they switched. I finally got brave and tried our own bed on night 5, but with LOTS of pillows. It is a little sore if he flips and flops causing the bed to bounce, or if he rolls over and tries to put his arm across me in his sleep (this is where kung fu ninja skills come in handy, lol). Overall with lots of pillows we've been making it work. Good luck to you!!

I am really thinking about attempting the bed tonight... It scares the crud out of me, but I do want to at least try. Today was full of emotional UPS and downs. I've both cried and screamed at the top of my lungs... Oh how I "love" what estrogen (or the lack of) makes us act.. Totally off topics, but I was given a hormone shot in the hospital. I was still kind of out of it, but I think it was to kick start my ovary back into action, not completely sure though..

Lol.. I hope my reflexes are ready for my ninja moves. We will see what happens tonight when I attempt the bed. I was an emotional wreck all day today, going from crying to honkerblonked off. I'm not even sure what caused each emotion to come out... Stupid stupid hormones.. Lol
