New and nervous!

I am scheduled for a hysterectomy (possibly total), repair of cystocele/rectocele, bladder sling, urethral sling, and ovarian cystectomy on June 22, 2012. I am scared, nervous, and ready to vomit lol. I have two toddlers under 3 and am SO worried about the impact of this surgery on my girls. I was told my surgery will be 5-8 hrs robotic, and I'll "be on my head" for the whole surgery. Has any one had robotic and better able to explain it to me? I'm also confused about wt limit after surgery, his nurse told me 20 lb and all my research says 10 lb :/

Re: New and nervous!

I had the robotic daVinci . They lay you on a table, strap you on, and tilt the table , head down. You'll be asleep and won't notice. I would never have known if I had not read it here. If your surgery is 5 hours long you may notice though. ( maybe puffy face or headache from being inverted so long). I had 6 small incisions. With daVinci your doctor controls the robot arms from a console while the robot follows the doctors commands. They say this is more precise surgery. I've read some pros and cons on it.I'm glad I had daVinci. My recovery was slow and difficult though. I was expecting to be back at life 2 weeks post op as many daVinci claims say. That wasn't the case for me. I was a slow healer!!

WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS The first week I wasn't able to lift much of anything at all. You'll find your body will be your guide on lifting post op. Each week I was able to lift a bit more without feeling the pain.Week 2 it still hurt to lift a half gallon of milk. Week 3 I could lift that fine. I went shopping about week 5 or 6 and lifted a case of water, and what a mistake that was, ouch!My doctor had me on a 10 lb limit for 6 weeks then after that told me to judge it by how my body felt. If it caused no discomfort it was ok to lift, but if I flt anything at all, stop and wait longer to lift that amount.
With 2 toddlers under age 3 your going to need help for a few weeks. Do you have somebody that can come stay with you to help with the kids?

Re: New and nervous!

My Mom is staying with me through July 4 th. I'm a single Mom and help is a rarity. My almost 3 yr old is independent, but my 1 yr old is a serious Mamas girl and I am very worried about her. I was wondering about the headache from being inverted didnt think about a puffy face. Thanks for the reply
