Cramping and Back Pain

I had a Da Vinci Robotic Asst. hysterectomy Dec. 17. I thought my surgery went fairly well, no surprises. My low BP made me dizzy and nauseous and I had a lot of pain under my ribs but, I didn't feel that bad and my surgery was really fast.
Since going home, I'm having a lot of back pain and cramping; Percocet isn't touching it. My temps been running about 99.7 on 800 mg of ibuprofen. I'm tempted to not take it just to see if I have a fever . I just honestly feel like I'm having my period. I've been able to get up and do a little but, I pay for it. I gained 10 pounds the day of my surgery and have lost 6 of those pounds. I know I'm only 4 days out but I'm not happy about it. Oh, and to top it all off, I'm starting to get itching near my heparin injection sites.
I just thought I would feel better than I do after reading other posts.
I wanna feel better.

Re: Cramping and Back Pain

So sorry you're suffering like this. I keep telling myself that if the surgery was the light at the end of the tunnel, then surely better days are ahead. Still waiting for those better days... Anyway... If you're unused to sleeping on your back, that can certainly cause back pain, but if the heavyweight meds aren't helping and you're running a fever despite ibuprofen, you might put your mind at ease with a call to your doc. I had a different procedure than you (TAH), but I think a lot of my cramping and discomfort is more gas pains than anything. Or phantom pain maybe? (I mean, how can I have menstrual-type cramps when I don't have the organs that they happen in anymore, right?) Either way, hang in there and give your doc a call. It might just be that you need different meds than what they gave you. Speedy healing sister! Blessed be.

Re: Cramping and Back Pain

Try drinking lots of fluids and taking short walks. Sometimes we can run a slight fever as our bodies are healing. You can add acetaminophen, too. I was told and given both in the hospital. I pray you get relief soon.

Re: Cramping and Back Pain

I totally know how you feel. I had my surgery 12/5 and I thought that by now I would be at least close to normal. I had a vaginal hysterectomy and I can't tell you how many people told me "oh that's easy. You'll be fine". Ok the word easy is never a word that I would use to describe this recovery. I also had to stop reading posts for a while because on top of being ridiculously emotional- it got really hard to hear people say how amazingly they're doing. I'm still taking my pain meds because my back is killing me most of the time. I've had a UTI that was miserable and I just find myself wondering if I'll ever be back to normal.

Re: Cramping and Back Pain

Thank you all for replying. I'm still not feeling well. My temp is back to normal though so that's a start. However, the cramps have gotten so bad I'm considering going in to the hospital tonight. I had to leave Christmas dinner early because I felt so bad.
