Trying to schedule: Urogyn vs my gyn

Has anyone ever had a urogyn do their whole surgery? My gyn wants to do my hyster then my urogyn do all my repairs and my sling. Scheduling them together is a nightmare. I'm getting agitated. I asked why can't the urogyn just do the whole thing?
Any thoughts or advice? I adore my gyn but like I said...getting agitated with the whole process especially since I wanted this done early November.

Re: Trying to schedule: Urogyn vs my gyn

Hi, Interesting question!

My OB is a urogyn. He specializes in women's pelvic health care.

I needed a bladder sling, he coordinated the urodynamics test to confirm it was necessary.

There's typically a surgeon there to second. My OB had another OB from the practice second on the surgery.

But he was able to handle hyster. and sling. Although, when they tried to do a DVH, my organs were held in a weird position due to adhesions making it look like I had a hernia (I didn't) and they called in a general surgeon to clean that up.

I'm honestly not sure why your OB would decline to do that surgery unless he / she is not experienced in those procedures. If that's the case, there's a value to using a specialist.

Can your OB's office coordinate the surgery? It seems strange that they're putting you in that position to try to schedule them both.

Good luck, I hope you can straighten it out!

Re: Trying to schedule: Urogyn vs my gyn

She didn't decline to do it...trying to schedule her WITH the urogyn is the problem. I can schedule with him at the time I want, but she is off that day. So I finally asked, why can't he just do the whole thing?

Re: Trying to schedule: Urogyn vs my gyn

I would suggest going with the urogyn for the entire procedure as long as he is willing to do it all. They are more specialized with pelvic floor issues if that is a concern. I had a reoccurring cystocele only two months after surgery and was then referred to a urogyn. Hope that helps.

Re: Trying to schedule: Urogyn vs my gyn

My gynogologist had a urogyncologolist share the surgery. I was at first not for sure..but our family doctor said that was a good thing. I finally realized that ..yes it was. I would highly suggest having both.
