Painful inscision site

Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since my TAH. Doing very well except it seems I'm experiencing more pain at incision site now than following surgery. No infection or skin irritation present, just sore on and surrounding incision. Anyone else had this happen to them? Any suggestions to lessen pain? Thanks. Connie

I am almost 7 weeks post-op. Week 3, I had terriable pain around my incision, mainly the right side. You should always give a call to your DR, just to check. Mine turned out to be pulled stitches, that took about a week of rest to heal. I am still a little tender in this area. Hope this helps

Connie, I have had similar pain with incision. I was expecting rectocele repair to be the worst, but it has been nothing at all. All of my pain comes from the area around the incision and maybe where the bladder (Burch procedure) got tacked back up. I had a hematoma at the incision but that's gone now. Sometimes tylenol or ibuprofen don't relieve the pain. I am 3 1/2 weeks out. I am learning how to loaf. Cats and laptops make great heating pads. Hope your pain leaves soon.

Painful inscision site

my incision site has been very sore, my doctor suggested warm moist compresses and it seems to help. It helps blood flow and decreases swelling and tenderness, helps the nerves to relax and reconnect. give your doctor a call and ask if you should try this. I do it 3 or 4 times a day for about 20 min a time. I get a wet wash cloth and put my heating pad on top of that. feels really good, just be careful and dont burn yourself with the heating pad, mine gets really hot on high and since i have some numbness i cant tell right away if its too hot.
I hope this helps, feel better soon.

The 3 wk point seemed to be the hardest for me. I think that once you begin to feel better, you tend to overdo without realizing it. I am 4 1/2 mo. post op and still experience the achey and soreness feeling if I overdo around my incision area. If you have any pain or discomfort that is not relieved with rest, I would call the dr. Better to be safe than sorry! I have had an even-free recovery...however, I do still have the achey and sore feelings at times.

Best wishes to you in your recovery...this is a looooong journey, Take care of yourself.
