what to tell people?

If I'm understanding correctly these people have no idea what you're having surgery for at all, correct? If so then they probably can't put perspective on it and understand the pain and worry you are dealing with. That being said though, if you don't want to share with them that info I would politely but firmly say, "do you really believe I would be having surgery at any point if it wasn't necessary and that my doctor would schedule it now if it wasn't important?" And leave it at that!

what to tell people?

It's hard to know how much detail you want to go into, everyone has a different comfort level. What I told people was that I had a fibroid large enough to put a saddle on, and I didn't need to say anything more!

what to tell people?

I am one of the lucky ones who sailed through surgery and was back to work after two weeks, but I found out a couple of co-workers thought that I was "milking" the situation. One young man in his 20's apparently thought it was outpatient and I should have been back in a couple of days. It's frustrating when people are so ignorant, and I would love to educate the people around me (like this guy, for the sake of his wife). And as one sister said, you shouldn't feel defensive. But it's hard not to feel defensive when people act like you're just trying to get paid time off. I did tell people at work but so many are so weird and cagey. Even if I'm comfortable discussing my uterus, it's too much for some individuals. As far as work, the only one who really needed and deserved a thorough explanation was the boss.

what to tell people?

I struggle with the same issue. I teach dance and have children through teens in class and the parents. I won't be able to teach for a while so I have to tell them something but I even find telling them I'm having a hysterectomy a little personal. I told one mom on Saturday and she said, How come? Did she seriously want to know the details? I think not. I just kind of looked at her and she backed off a bit. But, it is such a personal thing. I'm sure they don't want to hear how horrible it is each month and how my organs are literally falling out of me. LOL I wish I could just say something vague without starting rumors. Any suggestions?

Large enough to put a saddle on! I love it!!

I'm originally from Boulder, by the way. Grew up there and still love it even though I've lived away from there for nearly 10 years now.

We're coming "home" to visit my inlaws in November and can't wait!
