Transfusion before?

How anemic are you before your surgery? My last HGB was 10- but when I bleed a lot it goes down to 8 in a week. I'm wondering if I will have to have a transfusion before or during surgery. I know there is no way to know until I have my pre-op, but I was wondering how many of you had transfusions before surgery and what was your Hgb?

My HBG was 10 immediately before surgery, no transfusion needed. But because I bled a lot during surgery, it was 6 after, so I did receive transfusions, bringing it up to 8. For the rest, bringing it up to 12 (normal range), I went home and recovered. Took about a week or so to feel normal, not lightheaded.

Thank you so much. 6! That's so low. You are awesome. My mom has cancer and gets blood transfusions about once a month because she gets so anemic. They make her feel so much better!

I am ok with having a transfusion... I will just be so happy not to be bleeding so much all the time!

I was bleeding immensely before surgery. At one appointment, I had to pull out my tampon immediately before examination, and the blood started pouring out. The doctor called out to the nurse, "I need a cup!" as the blood was literally spewing out.

Woke up from surgery.....no more pain, no more blood.....ahhh. So nice. But, since my uterus was so full of blood, I did lose a lot during the surgery, hence the transfusion. I was only in the hospital the one night, and all has gone well ever since. Soooooo glad I did this. (oh, and the sex, including the internal, earth-shaking orgasms, are still there. This was one of my biggest fears, so just thought I'd let you know, in case you're worried).

Oh my gosh, thank you so much. Yes, I am VERY worried about the sex after. But I've not had sex in so long because I am basically just bleeding ALL the time. I think my husband will be so glad just to be able to get near me. LOL My periods last 3 weeks minimum, with about 10 days off and during that time I am so exhausted that I can't move.

For two years, I have put this off and waffled on this decision. Now, I'm ready. I'm actually kind of looking forward to it- well, to the new life after.
