Is this normal 7 days Post op

Um...
Yea so this is pretty embarassing but I dont care I need to know.
I didnt go potty for a few days...like 4 and when I finally did, yesterday morning, it was so big that all of my pushing hurt my stomach has been hurting ever since.
Last night decided to try going again, it was so big that the pushing made it feel like I pulled something like the stitches in my vagina...I am really worried that maybe I hurt something but I just dont know.

So 7 days ago I had the TLH and BSO, been on hormone patch since I was in the hospital....and now Im affraid that my potty problem may be causeing problems in the front.
HELP!!!

Re: Is this normal 7 days Post op

I am 11 days post op. And the same thing happened to me. No one warned me of the gas pain and constipation. I took stool softners, but that doesnt really do the trick. After experiencing the same problem you had (and found the solution too late)....have someone go NOW to the store and buy you MIRALAX. mix with water according to the directions. It is non colored, no taste and works great. I had no cramping and pain that is occasional associated with laxative. I was so desperate I also ate 4 prunes. That was about 3pm and by 5 I was great. I take a glass everyday now.
Are you still on pain meds? That causes the constipation but you should find relief soon.
Hope this helps, I wish I had started on it the day I came home from the hospital. At the time I didnt know if I felt pain from surgery or from the other problems.

Re: Is this normal 7 days Post op

My doc told me that the only 2 restrictions I have are no sex and no constipation. He'd rather my bms be too soft than be constipated. He told me to start stool softeners and take them for at least several months. They gave me milk of magnesia and senokot in the hospital. He said that pushing is a HUGE no no. You may want to call your doc if you think you've hurt something in there!

Drink lots and lots of water and be sure you are walking. Definitely get some stool softeners and Miralax if you need it!!

Re: Is this normal 7 days Post op

Call your dr if you are worried something came undone. Try drinking prune juice it really help me go every day. Also high fiber diet. I did all I could to prevent constipation or even hard stool. Staying soft will be your best friend during your recovery.

Re: Is this normal 7 days Post op

Once you get the relief you will feel so much better...I sure did. If I had only know to take something initially. You will also feel better after speaking to your Dr or post op Nurse. It is the NOT knowing that is the hardest part. Once you get some relief, you WILL feel so much better! It was like night and Day to me.
Take care..

Re: Is this normal 7 days Post op

Sistersarah-I had the same thing. After 4 days I made some Smooth Move-it's a tea from Whole Foods. Day 5 offered relief but it felt like I was passing a fist....holding a knife! I had to bear down so hard because it was so big that I actually bled from my rectum. I probably should have had an enema but I've never done that and was scared and embarrassed.
I do the Tea about every other day now. I don't get cramping from it and tastes pretty good.

Re: Is this normal 7 days Post op

I hope you get some relief soon sistersara! I came home from the hospital with two prescriptions from my oncologist ... one stool softeners to use for 2 months, 2x a day... the other was a pill form laxative to use if i noticed no BM for more than one day. I was thankful that he ordered those two prescriptions, and i came home with them.
It helped me tremendously!
One thing you dont want to be is constipated...not good. Like others have said, drink lots of water, walk around the house as much as you can...and call your doctor if something doesnt feel right.
Good luck...and a big hug for relief!!

Re: Is this normal 7 days Post op

Stool softeners usually don't work that well for me but Pre-Colace worked wonders after taking 2 plus 2 more later in the day. The output wasn't hard at all and hasn't been since. I have been so thirsty so drinking lots of water has been easy for me though.

My friend warned me to have Fleet Enemas on hand for after surgery so I bought some but haven't had to use them. Sounds like you may need them. They were cheap and easy to find with all the stool softener stuff.
