Upcoming hysterectomy 10/27: Kinda Freaking Out

Hi there! Brand new to this site and posting on forums. I am having my surgery 10/27 and am so nervous. A few questions if anyone can help...hoping for a laparoscopic keeping both ovaries. What would cause them to have to do a full Incision? I have had stomach surgery in the past to fix separated abdominal
Muscles. Will this be affected by hysterectomy. Doctor keeps telling me it will all be fine. LOL. I’m still a mess!! I can’t believe it’s a day surgery. Ahhhhh!

First let me say that this is major surgery, so freaking out is to be expected; I remember how I felt in the weeks leading up to my surgery. As for your concerns about your surgery being converted, I was also warned of that possibility, because of the size of my fibroids. Other sisters have expressed concern because of prior C sections, or scar tissue from prior procedures. I would suggest talking to your surgeon, and asking him under what circumstances he would convert, and what are the chances especially of that happening; ideally, it should be no more than 5%. Hi! I am schedule for LAVH on 10/27 too and am TOTALLY freaking out as well. I keep reading about all the risks/complications/ and I am nurse so I unfortunately have too much medical knowledge in my brain floating around. Do you have kids? I have 2 young kids and I’m also worried about taking care of them. Just wanted to say hi and let you know we’re in the same boat! Where are you located? I’m in the northeast US.

My surgery is coming up for Thursday. Going to see my doctor today for sono. I am nervous but not as much as I think I should be. I'm real concerned after SEX afterwards. Hubby says everything will be fine but I'm still worried. .... Due to this surgery I'm reminded of Thirtysomething with Nancy due to ovarian cancer having a total hysterectomy and trying to deal with having sex after. I'm just afraid things are going to change.

First trust your Dr. I had 2 c sections and am currently sitting in my hospital bed recovering from my LVH. 3 small incisions and it’s all good.

Have someone with you who the Dr can talk to if they need to make an on the spot decision. But typically if they’re confident in what they’ve told you...you should be good. Unless you’re hiding some surprises

My surprise was scarring on my bladder...that needed to be scraped away from uterus....most of my pain I experienced was the feeling of having to pee!

Good luck, I started listening to pre op guided meditation a few days before & have listened to 3 post op/healing today. I find they really help calm me down.

I am sitting in my hospital bed wishing I could tell you not to worry!! See I had my Da Vinci vaginal hysterectomy today and I am doing freaking great!!!! I was terrified of all of it, from anesthesia, dying on the table, you name it, I had that worry. You will be ok and it’s ok to be nervous too!! See you on the flip side!!
