Anyone had TWO Novasure ablations?

I had a Novasure ablation in 1/07 and it was fine for about 8 months then I started bleeding again. Have been looking into LSH but today I saw a dr. who said I could have a second Novasure ablation along with a D&C during a hysteroscopy as an option. The first dr. I saw said that this isn't possible--you can only have one. Any thoughts?? It's hard to know who to believe.

Anyone had TWO Novasure ablations?

Hi, Mrs. Cupcake. I also had a Novasure ablation in 1/07. It was okay (not perfect, since I still had 7 day long periods, but it got rid of the pain) for a year and then in January '08 the 12-14 day periods returned. My primary care doctor was very enthused about the idea of my having a second ablation to take care of the problem though he later said it was up to my gynecologist to figure out what would be best to do since he isn't a specialist. When I talked to my gynecologist he said that the Novasure is a "one shot deal" and can't be done twice. He did say he theoretically could do a D & C but that there wouldn't be much point since it would be very temporary. I am now also looking into an LSH and have requested that he schedule one, but I don't have a date yet.
I had also run across a website which said Novasure can't be done twice and no other type of ablation can be done after one either but it was only the one web site and I don't know how accurate it was.

Anyone had TWO Novasure ablations?

Thanks velvetandlace:
That's what I've heard also so since I am seeing 2-3 more drs for consultations, I'm definitely going to ask them their opinions on doing a second ablation. At first I thought he just meant a D&C but I called the office and asked specifically if he meant a second Novasure ablation and not some other kind and the woman asked the doctor and called me back and said, "Yes and that's the only kind he does". So.....more research required I guess.....

my ablation

I had a Novasure ablation procedure Sept. 07. It completely stopped my bleeding. Eight months later I noticed period-like pains for a day or so. Those pains increased every month and lasted longer, BUT still no bleeding. One year and one month after Ablation, my Gyn discovered a mass of blood and clots in my uterus that cannot come out due to scar tissue from the Ablation. Therefore, I am scheduled for a hysterectomy in about two weeks. Now I'm not so sure the Ablation was the right thing?? Just wanted to share my story with Ablations, hope it helps!

Anyone had TWO Novasure ablations?

Thanks. That did help. I feel like I'm not the only one wondering if I did the right thing with the Novasure ablation. Plus I also know now that my symptoms are not all that uncommon from what I've read here. I still might end up getting one. What type of hysterectomy are you getting if you don't mind my asking?

Anyone had TWO Novasure ablations?

No, I don't mind you asking most anything. I only found this website a week ago myself and am I "Overwhelmed"!!!
I am not entirely sure what type of hysterectomy because my Gyn. was so surprised by what he saw on the ultrasound that he just said I would need a hysterectomy and it could not be vaginal because my uterus is almost TRIPLE the size it should be!! No one in my family has had a hyserectomy so ALL of this is so new to me. My monthly pains last for almost two weeks and I pain med does not help!! He schedled me (Nov. 13) asap because of that!
I will repeat some advice I have received from other hystersisters - stick to the more positive posts and don't let yourself get too overwhelmed. EVERYONE that I have interacted with have been SUPER WONDERFUL!
Good luck and God bless ya 'mrscupcake'!

Triple the size? Yikes! I guess that does illustrate what things can go wrong with ablation. Then again as others have pointed out, there is a selection bias here as most ladies who are happy with their ablations would have no need to come here.
I've wondered too whether the Novasure was a mistake. It didn't do anything horrible, it just failed after a year. On the other hand it was easy to recover from and I did have a year of more or less normal functioning. Well, good luck to you both!

Anyone had TWO Novasure ablations?

Well I finally decided to nix the 2nd Novasure ablation after the FIFTH dr. I went to did a vaginal ultrasound and said that the fibroid, while not that large (4cm), was submucosal and poking into my uterus at a very bad location so a 2nd ablation would probably not work too well as the fibroid was blocking some of the tissue/lining. Hope that made sense. It makes sense at the time but when you try to re-explain it, it sometimes doesn't work. :0)

I'm scheduled for December 2nd for an LSH.

Oh, I too sometimes wondered if I made a mistake for getting the first Novasure ablation instead of a D&C or other type. I feel I've come to peace with it after talking to all these different drs. I learn something new with each one. For me, it sounds like it just wasn't going to work anyway with my particular situation. Some women get lucky and need nothing ever again and some don't.
