3 days post op, no pain and working from bed

I know that I should be posting on the post op board by now, but I feel the princesses in waiting would probably appreciate my update more.

I had my surgery last friday afternoon, no complications except I got sick during the night from the pain medication. I went home Sat. at 4 PM 24 hours post op, climbed into bed and got my first really good nights sleep in a couple of weeks. By Sunday morning I was feeling absolutely no pain, I have a pain patch on, which is supposed to last 2-3 days and it has. I was able to climb stairs, eat, sleep comfortably, talk on phone and had a little bit of company, kept that to a minimum.

Today, I am less than 72 hours post of and I have been working all day (from my bed) I sell real estate and much of what I do can be accomplished over the phone and computer. I am eating light meals, no problems with peeing or passing gas. I am tired and will be heading back to bed in a few minutes, but for those of us who just are unable to "stop life", it can be worked out.

I will take a shower tomorrow, I was cleared to do so yesterday, but I preferred to wait until my band-aids come off. I will feel much better tomorrow I'm sure. I have endured 5 surgeries in my lifetime and I have to rank this one along with my appendectomy, in terms of pain and recovery time.

So dear ladies in waiting, I agonized so much last week it was ridiculous. I am absolutely fine now, but truly am babying myself though, no driving or housework at all for a few weeks at least. I also worried about keeping my familly fed, well they have survived just fine, and me, I am just having a light, nutricious diet and getting stronger every day. Hang in there, waiting truly is the hardest part.

Laparascopic Supracervical Hysterectomy 7/19
3 softball size fibroids, 1 cyst on my tube, adhesions from previous c-section causing major bladder trouble, pain, horrible periods, clots, uterus the size of a 24 week pregnancy (going down slowly though)

Excellent!

Glad to hear you're doing so well. I was able to do some camping and hiking 2 and 1/2 weeks after my LSH - already feeling better than before the surgery.

Glad you're babying yourself - you have a lot of healing to do.

holy cow!

home in 24 hours? climbed stairs? no pain? Wow! Good for you! So glad you came through the surgery with flying colors.

But please do tell, to what to owe one of the most problem-free stories I've read yet? Was it the skill of your surgeons? Was it luck? Did you take super duper vitamins?

Thanks for sharing, each castle story helps take the mystery out of it and ease the nerves a bit.

Here's hoping your recovery continues to be problem free!

Take care,
Teena

Teenabeena

I do believe it was the skill of my surgeon. I got really lucky in finding him he was relatively new to our area and one of my friends who is a surgical nurse told me about him. The Dr. told me just what to expect nothing more, nothing less, very direct and confident. I posted last week his comments on post op recovery and everybody thought he must be some sort of quack, well he wasn't!

I didn't take any vitamins before surgery. I heard that many times the herbs in some formulas can interfere with the anasthesia, so I didn't take any chances. I am not in very good shape physically since I have been sick so long I haven't had the energy to walk around the block.

I wasn't nervous a minute before the surgery, was working right up till the morning of, the only problems I had were a horrible headache from not having my caffeine fix and surgery didn't start until almost 2PM. I also had a bad reaction to a painkiller that they gave me in the middle of the night (which I didn't even need pain level was between 1-2). Trouble sleeping after that, but I made up for it when I got home, night two and everything has been much better than I ever expected.

Best of luck to you. Is your surgery scheduled yet?

Skill of LSH Surgeon

Yep, the skill of the surgeon is key in LSH. Although most, if not all, gyn's are capable of doing TAH and TVH procedures, most aren't trained and experienced in LSH. If you are considering LSH, you need to find an LSH surgeon.

While LSH may require more time in the operating room, the pain and recovery time is much less than TAH, TVH, or LAVH. Absolutely worth considering.
