Are yearly exams REALLY neccessary?

Why must I "endure" yearly exams when I no longer have a uterus?

I asked my gyno last year and he said, "For the all-important breast exam."
Well, I just had a mammo (actually, more than one--they spotted a problem in March, my first mammo (bad girl!) in 6 years, and the results showed a mass. So then I had to go back and have a diagnostic exam) -- but Thank God, they were able to squish th offending mass-like-tissue away

So why do I need a pap every year? To be honest, I don't even know if my doctor (who has since left the practice) took my cervix during my tah. But my ovaries are still there. And boy do they give me grief once a month. I am on Cenestin .0625 mg.

I now live more than an hour away from my gyno (a new one from the same practice) and I'm wondering, is a yearly appointment really necessary?

Anyone have an opinion?
Thanks!

Whether or not you still have a cervix, you can still get cervical or vaginal cancer. If you don't have a cervix, instead of a Pap, they call it a 'vaginal vault smear'. I get one every year and plan to keep on doing so.
