Nervous/Anxious/Scared

Hello All - Last November I went in for my routine Well Woman exam. The pap came back suspicious and sent me to a gyno for further tests. I was scheduled for a colposcopy and ultrasound. The colposcopy and biopsy came back ok, (some fibroids but have not had any pain, just periodic bleeding) but they found a cyst on one ovary and suggested I come back in 6 wks for a followup u/s (The CA125 came back ok) Of course the cyst decided to invade my body and grew to 10cm. My Dr. suggested taking virtually everything out (cervix, uterus and one ovary). It hit me like a ton of bricks. On top of that, in December, I went in for the routine mamo and had to go back for additional diagnostic image and u/s as they found a spot. I am having my first visit with a breast specialist tomorrow as the radiologist recommended a steriotactic biopsy. My hyst pre-op visit is the 6th of Feb and my hyst is scheduled for the 16th of Feb. My hyst will be completely laproscopic - I have read lots regarding recovery and I know recovery from laproscopic is much easier. I know everyone is different, but Is it??? I wasn't planning on taking much time off from work, (surgery on Th and I was going to return on Mon) Am I kidding myself?
Thank you for listening - I needed to vent and have not talked much about it.

I am so sorry you're facing surgery right now.

I have to tell you that I think you're going to need more than what amounts to a long weekend to heal from this surgery, even if it is laproscopic. Have you discussed this with your doctor? If so, I would go with his/her recommendations for time off work. Although I don't know exactly what is being done, I would think your doctor would recommend at least two to four weeks of very limited activity. And for me, sitting upright (as in at a computer or a desk) was a very difficult activity in my early post-op period.

It sounds like this has come on rather quickly for you, and it's not at all unusual to feel overwhelmed, anxious, and frightened at the prospect of having such major surgery. Add to that the anxiety surrounding your mammogram -- well, it's clear you're going through a great deal right now. And we're here to help you every step of the way.

to you. You are definitely among friends here.
