I spent one night in the hospital. When I came home the next day I was feeling fine. I took 1 pain pill the first night home right before bed. No pain meds needed after that. I was released for everything at 2 weeks. I went back to work at 2 weeks and did fine. I did limit my lifting for the first 6 weeks.
I didn't have to do any bowel prep. I was glad about that.
Good luck with your surgery.

Hi Jenni,

I also had a LSH. I cannot say enough good things about the surgery type since it gave me my quality of life back. It is nice to wake up everyday without fiborids. My LSH is still one of the best things I ever did for my long term health.

Best wishes~

Mary

Thank you so much. I have my surgery next week and am a bit nervous. I had my pre-op, and I have a history of cancer and chemo, etc. so the anesthesiologist has been great. My doc gave me up to 5 weeks off on my medical waiver, so I know i have plenty of time to heal. He told me that if I wanted 2 nights in the hospital that was fine...I have 2 kids...3 and 5. I may take him up on that.

Take care. I will be checking in more for advice, etc.

Hah! With two little ones, you may want that extra rest (although hospitals are not always the best place to get sleep).

Anyway, I've now had my first post-op checkup and was told I could go back to work whenever I liked -- as early as today (ie, just 2 weeks after surgery!) if I was really feeling pressured by my boss. But they'd certify necessity of up to 6 weeks if I wanted extra recovery time.

I took the middle ground and said I was aiming to go back at the end of 4 weeks...

Anyway, hope you get similar flexibility. And good luck to you!

I was very happy with my surgery. Pain was not bad at all. I took pain meds for about 3 days. I went back to work (desk job) at 2 weeks. The only thing I had returning to work, I was really tired the first week back. I would hit a wall around 3:00. Every week got a little better and have been working full days since week 4.

I have just hit 6 weeks so I am just now starting to lift things. Hoping to hit the gym next week.

All and all much easier than I thought.

Hi I had my LSH on 2/19 I am not hurting anymore just very fatigued. I am
having some eating issues just not interested in food I have lost 9 lbs so far
I would have to say I was in pain for a good week after surgery, week 2 was sore, and now I am at week 3 and still wondering why I feel so Blah!
So just take your time, and let your body tell you what you can and can't do.
Good Luck with everything

I am having a LSH on Thursday (3/13) as well as a left ovarian cystectomy. My doctor may have to remove the left ovary, but he is going to try to save it. This web site and all of the posts above mine have been very helpful. I'm nervous, but trying to stay positive and not worry too much. My biggest fears - at least right now - are having a reaction to anesthesia (since I usually do) and getting a bladder infection and/or bladder spasms since I have bladder issues and this always happens to me after having a catheter. Thanks to everyone for all the helpful information.
