TAH: Tell me it's going to be okay!!

Enjoying reading the comments and tips from others' experiences.

I'm scheduled for a hysterectomy (keeping ovaries and cervix) on 12 Sep due to 10 years of problems related to adenomyosis.

No fibriods, though they have been suspected in the past.

The tipping point has been that super heavy periods are now barely under control (taking 20 x 5mg of Primulot / Norithisterone a day) and that my uterus has .... well, can I say exploded? .... into a 7 month size in just a few months. And growing!! It has been growing at the size of a regular pregnancy .. such that my specialist even had a preg test done!

Given the size, surgeon will be doing a vertical cut.

I have been worried but had a long chat with my specialist has answered most of my questions.

I am now 'almost" looking forward to it. The past few months have been difficult, and I'm so over the cramping and break-through flooding bleeds, along with the enormous tummy and feeling like I can't take a full breath and bladder pressure.

This time next week I'll be feeling sore.

This time in a fortnight I hope to be giving away the hundreds of pads and tampons I have stashed around the place.

This time in a couple of months I hope to look down at my belly and feel like I've had lipo-suction

And roll on a better sex-life!!!

Good attitude! (I love the comment about the lipo-suction! )

I also had big fibroids. Tried a UAE but that didn't work. I wish I hadn't waited so long to have the hysterectomy! No more bleeding. No more tampons. No more nearly passing out from severe anemia.

Life is good. That was 3 year ago. No regrets!

I too was a nervous wreck before surgery. The only other times I had ever been in a hospital was for the birth of my two daughters which were completely uneventful. But after years of extremely heavy and unpredictable cycles that kept me house bound on some of my kids biggest days and a diagnosis of numerous fibroids, I knew my only hope of a better life was having my procedure. I had my abdominal hyesterctomy on 8/16/11 (SAH) and now three weeks post op, I truly feel like a different person! My blood pressure was somewhat high when I got to the hospital but the doctors and staff take such good care of you - you really have nothing to worry about. They are pros at this and will be with you every step of the way. I almost cried the day I was released to go home... my doctor was so supportive and truly seemed happy that I was now on my way to a happier and healthier life! Good luck! We are all behind you!
