What kind of pain medication do they give you after your surgery? Scheduled for a LAVH.

I think this varies doctor to doctor. Some people have a morphine pump after surgery. I did not. My doctor gave me torodol, in my IV (great stuff! worked fast, and well) I also had lortabs, and before that, percosets. Now I take Ibuprofen and I still have some lortabs if I need them, which is rare. I have read a number of other drugs being used by the sisters here. I guess ask your doctor what he/she uses for their hyst patients. My GYN liked percosets, but the general surgeon who did my hernia repair liked Lortabs, which is how I ended up switching between those two.

I had a TVH and was given morphine via a pca pump. It's attached to your IV and you can self-medicate yourself every 12 minutes I believe. I know others have reactions to morphine and are given different medication and I'm not exactly sure what it is. After a day my morphine was disconnected and I took oral pain pills called Tordahl. There are others I've read were given Percocet, Demerol and other things. Your doctor will certainly be able to tell you what he/she plans to use and then the two of you can go from there.
