Secondary infertility--multiple mid-pregnancy miscarriages--adenomyosis?

I'm taking a shot in the dark here, and if this isn't the appropriate forum, I apologize. Please redirect me if appropriate.
(Pregnancy,birth and miscarriage mentioned below)

I have always had heavy periods. I had my first baby at age 26 which was a textbook pg except for some unexplained first trimester bleeding. I had my second baby at age 29, another textbook pg and delivery, but also had unexplained first trimester spotting.

At age 30, I had a m/c at 17 weeks and was told it was just one of those things. At age 31, I had another m/c at 17 weeks and again, "one of those things". I waited 4 years to get pg again, in the meantime lost 50lb. and was healthy and in good shape. At 35, I had another 17week m/c. and still told it was "one of those things". I did have bloodwork done but nothing showed up.

At 36, I had my 4th and final m/c at 18 weeks. I had a different dr. who said I *might* have a blood clotting disorder and put me on heparin, but she really wasn't convinced that was the problem. She did extensive blood tests, genetic tests, etc. Her best guess (and she told me it was just a guess) was that maybe I had something genetic going on that would cause me to m/c boys and I might be able to carry a girl. That didn't make sense either, since my two children are both boys. I'm 41 now, and do not plan to try for another pg.

Between m/c #2 and #3, I had a laparoscopy b/c of pelvic/ovarian pain. My dr. suspected adenomyosis, but didn't think it was serious enough to need any treatment.

I have not known anyone else with this kind of history with pg/mc. I guess I'm taking a shot in the dark here to see if there is anyone else out there like me? I am having a D&C and laparascopy next week, and facing possible hyst.

Secondary infertility--multiple mid-pregnancy miscarriages--adenomyosis?

I am so sorry to hear that you have had to endure so much pain. I had my LSH in June and they found that my problems were actually adenomyosis. My doctor was surprised to see it as bad as it was in a patient my age (28), he said it was the uterus of a much older woman. I have never had a m/c, but due to PCOS, I had a hard time getting pregnant with my first born. My second born was a miracle and although she was a surprise earlier than we had planned, finding out what I did after my LSH makes me really happy she came along when she did, since there was a good chance I wouldn't have had her if we had waited longer because my uterus apparently was going off the deep end and running a muck!! Good luck with your upcoming procedure and we are here whenever you need!

Secondary infertility--multiple mid-pregnancy miscarriages--adenomyosis?

Hi, I'm sorry to hear about your losses. I have a similar story to share. I have had two healthy pregnancies (second one with bleeding on and off throughout the pregnancy but otherwise healthy) (both delivered by c/s) and four miscarriages (8 weeks, 12 weeks, 16 weeks and 16 weeks) and now have been diagnosed with adenomyosis. I have read elsewhere that whilst not proven adeno and miscarriage can be related. I wonder too about the late stages of miscarriages and have always been told I'm just 'unlucky'. I guess for me, it now makes sense of my miscarriages if indeed the adeno had a part to play in them.

Good luck with your procedure.

Shortchick,

Thanks for sharing your story. I'm sorry for you as well--I know the pain. 2nd trimester m/c are not "normal". For me, after my first m/c I knew it wasn't "just one of those things".

Adeno is such a mysterious condition. I wish it could be diagnosed before hyst. and maybe even treated to avoid surgery.
