Gingerale & post-op gas......

this may be silly but thought I would check it out anyway. A friend told me that a friend told her, you know the story a friend of a friend. "Tell her to make sure she takes gingerale to drink, it helps with the gas after surgery".

true or false?

Gas!

Hey Sister, I havent heard about that and please dont drink or eat anything without okaying with your Dr. . Gas can be really bad if you do what you want. My sister had brought me oatmeal cookies to the hosp and I was up all night. Ginger ale sounds good but I'd ask first since they literally shut down your whole digestive system for the surgery and it takes alot of slow and go to restore it to normal. Godd Luck! Cindy

Gingerale & post-op gas......

You can ask the nurse for it, my experience has been they have what ever you want (if you can have it) and if it's not on the floor they'll 'call down' for it. We used apple juice, peppermint tea and a heating pad (and walking of course to get the gas going) and it worked.

Sprite came with my liquid diet.

A word (my word) on ginger ale or any soda including that sprite... think about it, it's carbonated... I think it would give you gas so the fact that it's helping you pass gas I would think is only an illusion. What goes in must go... somewhere

Gingerale & post-op gas......

I have heard before that is bad to drink sodas because it can give you gas, but maybe I'm wrong. There is something called Anise that you boil is like a tea and is very good for gas.

Gingerale & post-op gas......

When I was a kid my Mom always gave me ginger ale when I was feeling sick. And now that I'm grown up I find that it still tastes good when I'm ill. However, on my list of post-op instructions it said to stay away from carbonated beverages for a couple of days because they can make your gas worse. You can drink it if you want but it's not recommended until your bowels are back on track.

I'll be drinking lots of water and prune juice. I hate prune juice but I've drank it after previous surgeries and it really does help.

Gingerale & post-op gas......

Prune juice gives gas so be very careful after the surgery not to drink it. You will feel worse.

Gingerale & post-op gas......

My dh brought me 4 one liters after surgery of Canada Dry and I drank it from the 2nd day on (also diet coke) as whick were ok by my Dr. It didn't help me pass any gas, but it did taste good as I was sick to my stomach. I wish it would have helped me pass gas because I couldn't leave until I did. Good Luck!!

Gingerale & post-op gas......

The first evening after my surgery the nurses gave me cold ginger ale to drink (with a straw). I had heard that cold, carbonated beverages would cause gas, and also drinking with a straw wasn't advisable because it could cause gas. I didn't have any problems.

Ginger ale is one of those things my mom always gave me when I was sick, so it was kind of like a comfort thing for me when the nurses gave it to me.

Best wishes!

Gingerale & post-op gas......

warm, flat gingerale or coke (you can flatten it by adding about a teaspoon of sugar) helps with upset tummys... drinking sodas gives me stomach gas (not abdominal gas although it probaby got there too).

The nurses brought me gingerale (diet) to my hearts content.
