Does anyone else have swollen feet one day postop

Why are my feet so swollen? Does anyone else have swollen feet one-day postop?

Hi there. It's normal, don't worry. It's fluid retention and will go down once you're up and about and able to pass urine normally. Drink plenty as this will encourage fluid movement. I admit I, too, was shocked when I saw my feet the first day! Mine were "normal" again by three days post op.

PS My surgeon told me the swelling could last as long as a couple of weeks

Re: Does anyone else have swollen feet one day postop

I was swollen generally for a day or two due to all the IV fluids, but that resolved on its own. I'm not sure if that's the reason for your swelling but it's one possibility. If it lasts, I'd consider a call to ask your Dr if it's a concern. Best wishes for an easy recovery.

Re: Does anyone else have swollen feet one day postop

Hello,

I had the same thing, although it happened about day 3 post op. I was still in the hosp. I came home on day 5. I was stilling a bit too tong when I felt my feet starting to swell. When your not walking, and walking helps get rid of it too, try keeping you feet up as much as possible. I put an ottoman under my feet, level to our couch. and then had my husband prop up my feet while I was lying down. After a 4 days it gradually went away.

Al though I was happy I had worn bigger shoes to the hosp., although I did not think about my feet swelling when I came to the hosp. Happy coincedence!

Good luck!

Re: Does anyone else have swollen feet one day postop

Pretty much *everyone* does. I had a TAH/BSO, so I was in the hospital three days. While I was there, they had me wear compression stockings, but my feet and ankles swelled anyway. By the time I got home, pretty much everything below the waist was swollen. Then overnight while I was sleeping, the fluid redistributed. When I woke up the next morning, my face was so swollen I could barely open my eyes!

Fortunately, the retained fluids flushed themselves out over the next few days. Frequent short walks (wearing sufficiently large footwear!) are key.
