how long does a d and c stop bleeding for?

I am scheduled for a tah in jan, had a d and c in sept, and continued to bleed for about 2 weeks then stopped and nothing for the last 5 weeks, this is the longest i've gone without a period for about a year, usually it was almost nonstop with a break of a few days or a week inbetween. now i am wondering if it will start up again before my tah, or is it gone forever? it would be nice to build up some iron and energy...i am feeling better each day it will be very hard to make myself go forward with the th when things are going so good,
anyone have a similar experience or comment?

Re: how long does a d and c stop bleeding for?

I think you will get different answers from different people. I had my D&C immediately after my period (and it came early that time otherwise the D&C would have taken care of it for me). I spotted for maybe a couple of days. I had my next period right on schedule and it was a doozy, heavy bleeding and clots.

The D&C didn't solve my heavy bleeding problem, but the pathology on the tissue did tell me that I didn't have cancer, but that I'd still need a hysterectomy because I had adenomyosis.

I was put out for a couple of hours and was able to walk out of the hospital when everything was done, but slept at home for a little while afterwards. Then I showered, got dressed and took it easy the rest of the day. I was tender, but didn't hurt and took a few advil just in case.

Re: how long does a d and c stop bleeding for?

I had a D&C quite some time ago, for me, started getting my period 6 weeks afterward). However, I had mine because of a miscarriage, so my experience may be slightly different. I was achy and bled a bit for a week after.

As to how I felt after having one, I was pretty achy for about a week, and bled a little bit. Was also really woozy for quite sometime. I should note as well, mine was done under an emergency situation, because they tried making me wait until the morning even though I was hemorrhaging, needed a transfusion, but they didn't have the blood available to do one.

Re: how long does a d and c stop bleeding for?

my d and c was really easy, i was nervous so asked at the preop if i could have something (anti anxiety)- when i got there on the d and c day...so they gave me a pill which made me relax and i was really fine, not hardly aprehensive at all, when they wheeled me in to the or my gyn asked who gave me the meds and the anesthisiologest (sp) laughed, i'm not sure how long i was out for ,my operation was at 10:30 and they said i'd be ready to go by 1:30, i stayed a bit longer as i was waiting for a ride. my experience was pretty painless, woke up in the recovery room and said that my hips were sore (i have arthritis in them) and they got rid of that pain immediately, then i went back to sleep, woke up, felt a bit nauseous and mentioned it and they gave me a shot of gravol, took care of that and i went back to sleep, woke up, went home and never even needed a tylenol. did sleep quite a bit foro the rest of that day and was tired the next day but all in all not bad...really and i am a huge suck about pain etc so don't worry!

Re: how long does a d and c stop bleeding for?

I have something called complex hyperplasia with atypia. I had bleeding for 2 years, quite heavily. In December, 2009 I had a D&C and my bleeding stopped from December-March. I may have had one period in between, but nothing more. I'm sure it just depends on your diagnosis and what is causing the bleeding.

I went into OR for my D&C bleeding, came out bleeding, and kept right on bleeding into OR for my hysterectomy about two months later. The bleeding had eased up, but it never went away!
