Fibroid pain?
Great site! Ive been reading it for hrs and hrs. Im scheduled for a lavh in 7 days. I have a couple of 5-7 cm fibroids and enlarged uterus supposedly the size of a 7 month pregnancy. Have had symptoms for over a year that were unexplained and was "all in my head". Gave me an ultrasound because they thought it was kidney stones and there they were. then took bactrim for uti. Now I'm having a lot of pain that feels like a uti but the culture was negative twice. Anyone have pain that felt like uti and is really from the fibroids?

Re: Fibroid pain?
Hi sunny-days -
I have read that fibroids can be painful, but I do not know if it is similar to UTI. Hopefully women with similar experience will see this post and respond.

Re: Fibroid pain?
Hi Sunny-days,
I had just horrible pains from my fibroids...I kept feeling pressure on my bladder, lower back pain, plus general pain in my pelvic region. I tried to explain to my doctors, and they thought it was age and gravity, and a bad back. My doctors kept assuming my fibroids would shrink since I was post menopausal - wrong! After several emergency ordered tests, I was told the pain was not in my head...but was being caused by huge, twisted fibroids causing havoc. And these aliens were also responsible for causing me great pain.
The good news is while I am still healing, I am so glad the fibroids and the pain associated with them is gone.
Good luck on your upcoming surgery and I pray you heal well. Take good care now so that you will be in good shape for your operation.

Re: Fibroid pain?
Yes fibroids hurt, I have 8.5 cm and his couple of 3cm sidekicks located at the top of my uterus. I have severe pain during my period, constant back pain, out of the blue stabbing shock like knife bolts and an overall bloating and heaviness. I too am about 6 month pregnant uterus size so this also causes stomach upset and shortness of breath as it pushes up on my diaphragm. Anyone that says fibroids don't hurt is nuts. Mine are embedded in the uterine muscle so not sure if that's makes a difference as opposed to attached to the uterine lining. I find that even prescription pain killers like Percocet don't completely relieve the back pain and soreness. I reserve them for the days I'm gripping the walls, but it's not much help.

Re: Fibroid pain?
Realized I didn't answer your question, yes I get uti like pain and pressure from the uterus pushing on my bladder, but that is not constant because of their location, mostly around my period when everything seems to bloat. If yours are pushing more on your bladder it makes perfect sense to have pain similar to a uti. Mine push more on the back and kidneys, but even still I understand the pain you are talking about.
