Military hospital okay?
I am 52 years old and will have some kind of hysterectomy ( Dr. won't decide til he gets in there) Nov.12. It is at a military hospital which is making me very nervous. I had all my babies at the base and had a great experience, but what do the dr.s there know about older women? Dr. has discussed a vaginal and/or laproscopic type surgery, depending on the size of the fibroids. Has anyone else done this at a military facility?

Hi BTlady!
I am concerned that the doctor is not being more specific with you on the type of procedure. You are covered under <>, aren't you? I think you could go for a second opinion to a civilian doctor. Are you at a base that is remote from a civilian hospital? I see you are in Washington State.

Military hospital okay?
I have already been to a civilian Dr. for a second opinion. I think the navy dr. is being vague because I would like him to try a laproscopic procedure, but the uterus may be too big, so he has to leave the option of a TAH open. Either way, I keep the ovaries.

Military hospital okay?
I had my TVH in a military hospital and I had a very good experience. I had fibroids and adenomyosis and my doctor told me he would planning to do a TVH, but if he couldn't he would convert to a TAH. I was given excellent care and since we lived on-post at the time, I didn't have to go far.
Best wishes!

Military hospital okay?
I had 2 laproscopies in military hospitals and I got really great care. My hyster was in a civilian hospital since the base here doesnt have a "real" hospital, only a clinic.
I would just make sure your military doc knows what the heck they are doing! I have run across some that are MORONS and I wouldnt let them take my temperature, LOL

Military hospital okay?
I have had some of the same thought. I too have been around doctor that didn't seem to know anything. I am having my hyster at a military hospital as well. If I didn't feel comfortable with my doc I wouldn't do it. I can understand leaving your options open incase there is a change in what has to be done for your surgery, just make sure all your questions are answered. I wouldn't worry about it to much just because it is a military doc.

Thank you, ladies. I feel better now. I think my Dr. is a civilian contacted by the hospital. He seems to be more up-to-date then the first guy I saw, which is reassuring.

Military hospital okay?
I had mine done at a civillian hospital in July. My girlfriend opted to have it done at the base. She had to go back twice for corrective surgery. They knicked her bladder and sewed up her vagina so tight that her spouse could not penetrate. Seriously! When I saw her go through that I said no way are they touching me. I asked for a referral out and got one.
