8 days post hysterectomy: To cover or not to cover horizontal abdominal incision

Hi Ladies!
I am 8days post complete hystorectomy and have a 4inch horizonal incision with internal stitches and steristrips which are beginning to come off on thier own. I have some redness just at the incision line, and no oozing. I have had a remarkable recovery thus far and have been very active. As i am a bigger gal, i find i am getting uncomfortable with gravity when walking and bumps on the bus. Just feels like my incision is stretching (which i dont think its is), but feels uncomfortable.
I am heading to an outdoor concert tonight and this week and was wondering if it would be ok to cover it w a light pad or bandage (they sent me home w one from the hospital) for a few hours while walking to and at the event. For some extra support. There is also the possibility of some rain, so i am thinking water proofing. Does anyone have any experience with this? Let me know and thank you so much!

Re: To cover or not to cover

I was told to cover with bandages if it was more comfortable. Just as long as they are changed daily and avoiding moisture is good.

Re: To cover or not to cover

Hi, After a shower, dry the area throughly w a blow dryer & apply a pad over the incision to wick moisture & any discharge. Adhere the pad to a panty.

I used to wear an ab binder. It gave me support. If your Dr didnt give you once, theyre on-line & in medical supply stores & some pharmacies.

Walking is good, just be sure to get in rest.
